Yes -- the human race. The Roman Catholic Church created the myth of race when determining who were heretics and who were Christians. Non-Christians were eliminated wherever they could be found by burning them together with their holy books. Jews were burned in synagogues together with their Talmuds. Heaven forbid a "real" Christian would read that forbidden book!

Well, as a student psychologist who is getting lots of science stuffed down her throat (lol), I do not believe in the theory of race. Science says basically that all humans contain basically the same genetic markers, regardless of whether they are red, white, black or brown. I know little of genetics, but what I know comes from the lesser anthropology classes I've been fortunate to take. We are all of one "breed" because we can mate and successfully reproduce with other humans of different colors. If there were actually different "races," we would not be able to reproduce amongst the different races.
However, I do believe in ethnicity. Genetic differences are a slight consequence of cultural living then. We are all one human species, but many ethnicities... i.e., cultures.
As far as racism, yes, I believe it would still exist even if we somehow "got rid of" the labelling of "race." Why? Because the proper term is "bigotry," or "prejudice"... not "racism." The term "racism" is slang, a politically "correct" term used to "soften" what is *really* going on.

Science has shown that humans are all of the same SPECIES. You can take two natives from opposite ends of the earth, have them procreate, and wind up with healthy human offspring that aren't sterile.
There are most certainly different RACES, but the differences between one and another have proven to be purely cosmetic or shaped by culture/society.
As for your last question, as long as there are ways of visually separating people, there are always going to be those who do it. It's natural to discern things and make distinctions; it's only a problem when you get carried away with it.

Your information regarding scientific proof of race is wildly out of date.
"Race" is a loaded term nowadays, however, and the old 19th century physical anthropology divisions are a bit limited . . . what one really needs to look to in order to define variants and groups within the larger humanity is "geographic area of origin." Whatever the original rootstock, during our early diasporae we settled into insular, geographically distinct groups, where genetic mutation and drift over the millennia created unique traits within each grouping.
The gene for lactose tolerance, for example, is centered in the Funnel Beaker Culture of Northern Europe, and becomes progressively---and then *exponentially*---rarer the further from that ancient culture one's ancestors lived; a similar phenomenon is found with the gene for sickle cell anemia and sub-Saharan Africa.
"Race" as WE RECOGNIZE IT can be readily identified and defined genetically; it just isn't politically correct to do so, and even police labs tippy-toe around the issue. Certainly you shouldn't expect to see it mentioned on "CSI" anytime soon, even though any competent geneticist can identify race practically at a glance.
ADDED: Incidentally, the interbreeding "argument" against race being used throughout this thread is utter nonsense. Race does not equal species; one does not speak (at least not correctly) about the "race" of horses or the "race" of chimpanzees. That different races can interbreed (whether or not one believes they should) has nothing to do with whether or not they are definable as "races."

I dont know how true it is about I have heard that it's down to evolution and the most beneficial traits for people living there to have.
of course as far as Im concerned the important thing is that we're all part of the human race.

The definition of a seperate "race" or species would be one that couldn't breed true with each other. Humans of all ethnic variety can mix with each other and have beautiful babies.
Race is just another bit of pseudoscience that won't go away.

Yes, there is such thing as race. There are different races of humans, which are all the same species, just as there are different breeds of dog, which are all the same species. Different breeds of dog have different generalized behaviors amongst themselves. However, just because a breed (or in humans, a race) is different, doesn't mean such is inferior or superior.

The only race I see are the one televised and sponsored by NASCAR. And I don't even watch those anymore.
I personally only see the heart of a person. I am learning to see through the eyes of God and since He is no respecter of persons-as pertaining to skin tone or social status- why would I?

No and if I am wrong about that I am adamant that it is far more trouble than it is worth!
It isn't racism it is difference..anything at all! We are like hens in a hen house by nature. Disgusting isn't it?
We have to evolve out of that pit!
Peace and love.
