I have a two month old kitten that was orphaned right after birth that I have bottle fed and hand raised... Its the only kitten and now its spoiled rotten! It is very active, which I know is normal for young kittens, but it is also very aggresive because she didn't have her mother or littermates to teach her what kind of play is too rough. We have been considering getting another kitten about the same age, but my question is for anyone who might have experienced this is do you think she will be too aggresive with a new kitten? Do you think she will be territorial with this new cat in her home?

Also she has played with a friends female kitten (at the other kittens house), but she always seems to make the other cat run off and cry...if we get a second kitten, do you think male would be the best choice?

Get a kitten a little older that will not allow her to abuse him.

Spay and neuter!!!

I think a playmate for your kitten is the best idea. My boyfriend and I adopted a kitten who was 4 weeks old and she was our only pet until she was 4 months old. She was very rotten and quite aggressive b/c that was how we had played with her. The day that we took her to the vets office to get spayed and declawed, we adopted two little boy kittens from the vets office that were 4 weeks old. When she came home, she was pretty pissed off about both things, but she adjusted quickly. Now, she plays rough with one of the boys, but not the other b/c he is much smaller (runt of the litter) and sleeps with them, too. Female cats aren't really territorial unless they are in heat. Male cats are actually more affectionate than females, but be sure to get them neutered before they start spraying. Also, once you get your kitten spayed (which you should definately do) she will calm down. Congratulations on your new kitten and good luck!

here is a pic of her now

This sounds like a very valid question considering the history of the kitten. You kitten is very dominant and even getting a male kitten may not change that. It's the personality of the the cats that matter. It's okay to have one dominant cat. I've had a lot of cats... If she's aggressive, you may have to step in and teach her thats not the correct behavior. It's much easier with dogs! But I suggest getting a clean squirt bottle and fill it with water. Whenever you see an unwanted behavior, just give her a little squirt and in a low tone of voice, say "no" . eventually, she will relate the water and no to stopping what she's doing and then when she hears no, she thinks of that and the water. I use this training method on my cats. It really works! Now, all I have to do is shake that water bottle and they snap out of it and look at me and I say no. Most of the time they remember not to behave that way. using this training method, I think you can get another kitten. But your current one may still be dominant, just watch her and for the most part, let her be herself. Just use your judgment regarding unwanted behavior. Kittens will be kittens and cats will be cats, you can't change that part. Good Luck with your new kitties!

Typically it's better to have a female with male cats as buddies. The male cats are just more easy-going. Female cats tend to be more territorial and fight more (cat-fights!) lol. Something that worked well when I brought a kitten into the house after my lady cat died was Feliway. It's expensive. But it calms the cats down, and sends off some kind of pheromone that tells them "it's ok, other cats are ok, etc..." My vet uses it in his exam rooms to settle the kitties down. My boy doesn't care, but the female cats are always ticked off at the vet. I would say find a boy kitten and use Feliway. The girl kitten might still be the "Queen of the Castle", but as long as she doesn't beat the heck out of the boy kitten, all will be well, and hopefully they'll get to snuggling each other like mine did. But when there was a fight - she always won... just like people - haha :-) Best wishes,

Gina

I think that either way, if you get a male or a female kitten, your kitten will still be agressive towards it. But normally, cats are that way with new cats that come into their house. They just need some time to get use to another animal in the house. It might take longer though because this cat has never had a another cat to play with before.
It's going to take some time but it should be fine.

Keep in mind that animals in general are territorial. I think getting another cat would be a great idea (it's always better to have 2, so they aren't lonely). Yes, your first kitten will be mean and may hiss and scratch - get a spray bottle full of water and squirt the heck out of kitty when she's bad. Yell "NO" and make sure when she stops doing the bad thing you say "good girl". If she starts to get to aggressive, pick her up and yell at her. Lock her in a room by herself for awhile. Make sure that you spend equal amounts of time with both if you bring a new cat in. You want them both to feel loved, not like one is replacing the other. Treats are a great way to reward a good behavior. Newspaper is another great way to punish kitty. Roll it up and smack the area near them to startle them, or smack kitty on the butt. Remember, cats can be trained much in the same manner as dogs.

Kinda lol. That's not a bad thing, I'm spoiled too. It's awesome right? =) I hate how people will always snap at someone and automatically assume they're a bad person because they have stuff. It's all jealousy. If someone has the money or opportunity to get something, take freakin advantage of it!

I think its very important for you to be her disciplinarian since she doesn't have other kittens or a mother cat to do this for her. I think with another kitten she may learn proper playing techniques but you will need to monitor them for awhile - you don't want her injuring the other kitten.

If you do get another kitten it may take a week or two for them to adjust, but I bet they will have a great time playing together.

It often happens that hand-raised kittens become spoiled little monsters!

If you're going to get another cat you have a better chance of them tolerating each other if they are both neutered and have access to outside so they can get away from each other.

Get an adolescent cat. One that isn't full grown but big enough to teach your kitten the manners it needs to learn.
