Since a psychiatrist or other medical professional will have to prescribe the medication, they would know best. I am taking amitriptalene, and that seems to be helping me, but everyone is different.

My doctor/coucillor told me that over time if you are depressed because of a situation and you cannot deal with it, it can sometimes turn into clinical depression (chemical imbalances in the brain and nervous system). If this happens only medication can really get things on track again. If it has been going on for a long time and nothing seems to be working and you are miserable there is nothing wrong with getting yourself to a doctor for temporary medication. It doesn't mean you are weak it just means you are human and need a bit of help for a while. Good Luck.

A doctor can work with you on this problem and may Rx something to help. Work through the difficulties as best you can. Don't self treat.

I would recommend learning some relaxation exercises and getting weekly therapy sessions. I think meds help more with clinical, long-term depression.

Good luck! :)
