I tend to believe that its how you feel that matters most (unless your levels are dangerous). I think that traditional TSH tests are allowing for levels to get too high. I was told in 2002 that my level of 5.65 was just fine! The next time I had it tested it had skyrocketed to 161 because I had progressing thyroid disease.

If your TSH is low and your FT4 and T3 are okay, I think you should go by how you feel. If your FT4 and T3 are high then you could be risking damage to your thyroid and other organs. Get a second opinion, and a third...I've found that endocrinologists are a fickled bunch!

If TSH is too low, your thyroid gland is overproducing. You need to ask your doctor why he wants to lower your thyroid production when you already feel fine. Without knowing what meds you are on, and what other diagnostics the doctor is considering, there is no way to second-guess the doctor's decision. It might be helpful to look at a web site on thyroid problems so you can talk with your doctor and understand what's going on.

I really don't go so much by tsh but how you feel. Last time I had my tsh checked it was .001 but my Free t3 and t4 were within range. By the way I take Armour thyroid. So many doctors are obessed with the tsh test. Next time you go back to the doctor have him check your Free t4 and Free t3 and if it is in range. I would stay at the higher dose that makes you feel good. Hope this helps.

"HYPOTHYROIDISM"....Typically you may become lethargic, gain weight, loss of hair, constipation, memory loss among other symptoms. I, too, have to take medication, for the rest of my life, to control my TSH levels. My doctor says he likes to see my levels closer to .4, on the scale from .1 to .5. You might not notice much change if your level goes from .2 to .3 but in the long run, it'll make a difference.
