Wash the potato, rub with olive oil and sprinkle with kosher salt (this results in a nice crispy skin), bake at 350F for 45-60 minutes depending on size, do not poke holes in it. Do not wrap in foil, it will make the skin rubbery and tough.

Bake at 450 for about an hour, depending upon the size of the potato. You can check for "doneness" by sticking a fork in the potato. If it goes in easily, the potato is done. Always prick with a fork or knife before baking. I prefer to wrap mine in foil, as the potato and skin remain more moist and tender that way. However, you can also bake without foil. It's up to your preference.

You can also bake at lower temps, if you want to bake alongside something else you're preparing. You'll just have to bake it longer. (Again, just test it with a fork).

After you wash the potato, make sure to let them air-dry. Then wrap in a small sheet of foil, and pop them in a 400 oven for about an hour. (But check after 40 minutes or so by gently squeezing them.) I've cooked thousands of potatoes this way.

Cook it for an hour at 350. The only reason restaurants put them in foil is for asthetics-some potatoes are quite ugly. Potatoes are not confusing.

IF YOU HAVE A MICROWAVE THEN LOOK FOR A BAKE POTATO BUTTON AND THEN PUSH THE BUTTON AND THEN PUT HOW MANY POTATOES YOU ARE MAKING.
AND NO YOU DO NOT PUT FOIL WRAP ON IT IF YOU DO YOU CAN MESS UP YOUR MICROWAVE.

wash it (especially if you are going to eat the skin)
rub oil on the skin. (olive or vegetable)
poke some holes in it
lay it on the foil and sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic
wrap it in the foil
450 deg oven for an hour

You can't over cook it but you can under cook it !
Error to a longer cook time.

Summertime...don't run your oven at 450 for an hour!

Microwave on high. For a big spud, 2 minutes, turn over, 2 minutes.
