Toss out the tv, and I am serious.
Or at least ban your toddler from watching tv, if you have a toddler.
Haven't you heard the research about the "flicker" of the tv screen mesmerizing people? The shifting screen makes it hard to turn away from the screen. And this shifting constantly is significantly reducing children's attention spans.
And a reduced attention span means it is harder to learn in school.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that toddlers and young kids watch NO TV at all. And certainly not before age 5, and even after that with a lot of parental discretion.
Investigate this topic on the Internet. I'm sure you will come away with more horror about this than the lack of educational value of the tv shows marketed for young kids.
I don't have a tv, and haven't for 20 years. My 7 kids all read, and I nevr used a tv as a babysitter, even with 5 kids in 5 years. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Ok so you obviously haven't ever been around small children!
Children learn by silly shows. They may not be learning their ABC's but they jump around and dance around with the teletubbies which is teaching them motor skills and coordination! It may not be "educational" but neither are the shows we allow our children to watch in the evenings or the cartoons you may let your kids watch. Are kids only allowed to watch educational television? What about having a little fun for them too?

Oh come one lady, have some sense of humor!! Not all the shows have to be educational, in life you actually have to have fun!! The kids love teletubbies and they get entertained. I believe that the show is not stupid, it is a way to maintain kids happy. Maybe because of people like you, there is so much violence. Only wanting children to bury their noses in books, it is not all like that!!

its not for kids above the age of 2 or 3.
any older, and u should be letting ur kid watch things like Dora and Blue's Clues.
teletubies wakes u up and just builds the thinking process of little kids cuz u watch them and they look like babies which helps connect them to the world.
u jump and dance after watching them.
im 10- don't know why i watch it though

its teaching them by teaching them words they hear. like they hear bye bye and other words, they begin to watch it. see, the colors and the interesting things they see on the screen catches there attention, then they hear what they say and consider it because its coming from something fun for them. and then what they hear, is what they learn....

Why are you yelling at a kids show? It teaches kids basic vocabulary and colors.

why are you so angry at a children's show? i like this show. my son actually gets up and dances with them and he loves to giggle with them. when they hug, he hugs his baby sister. not every show needs to teach english and spanish. sometimes a good giggle is just what a kid needs, and mom too
