Wow...Lots of misinformation on here.
Okay...by active reserves, I am assuming you mean a drilling reservist, weekend warrior, etc. The Army Reserve and National Guard also has a program called "AGR" which is Active Guard/Reserve, which are full-time Soldiers who are attached to Reserve/Guard units as full time members. Their pay and benefits are exactly the same as regular full-time Army types.
Anyway, like others on here have said, the best bet is to talk to a recruiter...I would recommend taking a day or two and visiting 2-3 recruiters...one Army Reserve, one National Guard, one Air National Guard, etc. to weigh your options. In the Army Reserve, the list of MOSs that include bonuses for FY 08 just came out a few weeks go...it was pretty long, so chances are if you are looking for a bonus, you'll probably find a job that agrees with you that includes one.
I am not sure what a "family allotment" is. When you have dependents (i.e. a family) you get paid more in ALLOWANCES, not in base pay...while you are on "active" status (your training, etc.) you will receive a housing allowance, a larger food allowance, etc. which makes your paycheck bigger..These allowances are not taxed, which is nice.
When you're at basic training, you can set up an "allotment" to have a portion of your check sent to a different account than your standard checking/savings account. This can be set up as a car payment, house payment, allimony payment, child support payment, etc.
Keep in mind, though, once basic training is over and done with, if you are just a 'weekend warrior' reservist, your check will be a LOT smaller once your training is done.
Have I confused you enough? Good! Now, get off of this board and go find a recruiter!

Yes there are - talk to your recruiter - State National Guards typically are better funded than the reserves - so that might be a better route - you can negotiate you signing bonus but it does depend on your MOS - remember that you don't get you bonus as a lump sum when you sign, you typically get you first part after you are done with IAT. Combat pay is better than regular active pay. You do get a housing allotment as well as a substanse allowance and seperation allowance (if you are married and separated from your spouse because of unaccompanied orders) substance allowance is based on family size, and of course base pay. Base pay is based upon rank, pay can be down graded as part of a disciplinary actions - so you have to be good. Tri-care also is a great insurance and takes care of everything - being active you get everything taken care of anyway - but for your family it is great. Ofcourse this is for when you are active - when you are not active you just get the training stipend. There are other bonuses depending on your MOS - linguists get paid their linguist pay even when they are not active - that pay is dependant upon you DLPT scores and the language that you speak. There is also ROTC scholarships that you can get while in "non-active"status while going to school - if you do that then you are non deployable while in school - but you still do your training. Lots of stuff to think about, but talk to all recruiters of all branches do a lot of research and talk to as many people as you can. There is no really standard list of bonuses - you have to discuss that with you recruiter. Remember that pay is

If they are not offering signing bonuses for the MOS you want then wait until Oct. when the new fiscal year starts. Often times the bonus money runs out by the middle of summer and you won't get offered any.

Best thing to do is to talk to your local recruiter. Joining the forces is like anything you can get anything (almost) with some good negotiations. Just know that as Reserves you might be the first to go overseas... funny huh? Reserves doesnt really mean Reserves - just a bit more dispensable

There is a "Family Allotment" if you are married and have kids. You will still get your full paycheck, and your wife will get a check mailed to her. The Family Allotment will be at least twice as much as your paycheck.
Yes, if you go to Iraq or Afhanistan, you will recieve a bonus called "Hostile Fire Pay".
