One is OpenOffice (openoffice.org) It's a vast substitute for the entire Microsoft Office Suite (except for the Outlook component). Lots of folks even prefer it. It's easier to use. It converts Word documents to PDF, OpenOffice comes with a database component, a spreadsheet component, and all that, all integrated...
Please note, it's a LARGE download. It's free, yes. But if, like I was, at the time, a dialup user...then you may wish to acquire (at a relatively low price, like, say, $15)...a CD from Amazon! Look into it! Enjoy!

Yes, Sun Microsystems has a really good free office suite with everything that Microsoft Office has, and it's available in several languages. It's called OpenOffice Suite:

If you are connected to the internet... and I suppose you will be... then you can use Google Docs...

Creat you account there if you dont have any and then you can create word documents, Spreadsheets...
You wont be required to downlaod any softwares... also you can store your docs online if you want..
