Well what are you looking for exactly? If you want snow, and a more laid back lifestyle, move to Indiana. If you want warmer temps with possibily of rains and you're looking for a bigger city with a bigger nightlife then pick Austin. Really would be more helpful if you gave more details.

In that case since your details are added I would choose Indiana!

Perhaps this will help you in your decision:

I have no clue about TX but I lived in Carmel for a while before I moved to Noblesville where I'm at now. Carmel is a very nice place but it's expensive too. Carmel does have some good schools and it's a very nice place but if you are mid class range then I would choose it. Noblesville (near fishers) has nice schools too and is kinda in the richy area of class, just not as bad as Carmel. Carmel, Geist, and Fishers is a pretty high class area to live in Indiana.
If you like seasons then Indiana would be a great place to be, if you like pretty much just warm weather I would go to TX if I was you. The winters can get pretty cold up here in Indiana.

The Indianapolis area has a vibrant economy, a fairly cheap housing market, cheap cost of living, and a pretty good array of entertainment options. Indiana, unlike Texas, has four seasons and it's a nice state to drive around in, with a varied geography - everything from state parks with forests and hills to Lake Michigan Dunes. Indy's airport is cheap to fly in and out, and the city is just 3 hours south of another great place: Chicago. Add to that the Colts and the Pacers, 500 and Brickyard, ATP tennis, Indians Baseball, lots of parks and museums and a great zoo, all really nice family activities. I can't comment on schools because I don't have kids. Carmel is a tony area. You can find cheaper places to live that are just as nice. Northside is definitely best. Avoid the East Side.

Austin is nice, too, but it's expensive. Austin was a booming city in the 90s but the employment situation has cooled down quite a bit. Housing is expensive and cost of living is high. Texas has no state income tax, though.
It's a hip and trendy city with a young population and great nightlife, but there's no way that it's as family friendly as Indianapolis.

I guess I would say that Austin is better if you're single and like to party, Indy is better if you've got a family.

I feel that Austin would be your best choice. Austin, Texas is an amazing city with never ending things to do. From the age of 2 to 102 you have an area of town that meets your needs. Whether you are an indoors person or love the outdoors, Austin has a place for you. Do a basic search on Yahoo or Google... you will find about 10000 more things to do in Austin than in Carmel. In Austin you are in the heart of the City... Carmel you are close to Indianapolis, but who cares... (sorry Indiana). Austin is the Capital of Texas, Capital of Music, and has the best atmosphere of any city in Texas. Different than the rest of Texas, Austin is neither a concrete city nor is it a desert. The hill country of Austin is beautiful. Throughout Austin you have miles and miles of Greenbelt hiking and biking trails and plenty of parks to choose from. Lakes are plentiful around Austin as well. Home value? Well, Texas has some of the most undervalued property in America right now. Sure some people say that its because of the high property taxes, but we don't have any local or state income tax in Texas. Austin will be seing a large increase in home value and number of properties in the hill country over the next 10 years. There are plenty of areas in and around Austin to choose from to rent or buy no matter what your price range is. Texas in general is booming. I would look at Austin for sure. The job market in Austin is the only drawback. If you have a job already lined up for you in Austin, go to Austin.

Indiana! I live in Jasper, Indiana, and they have THE BEST schools and sports teams, and lots of homes with good prices. Jasper is in southern indiana, and you have all four seasons! Warm summers, breezy springs, chilly autums, and cold winters. Ive never been to carmel, but Jasper is AWESOME!

Ummm...Austin, Texas is so much nicer than anywhere in Indiana. Indiana is the epitome of boredom. No choice whatsoever.
If you've something to do in Austin, you'd be a fool to forsake that for Indiana; your sorry butt would never forgive you once you felt the coldness and real idiocy of Indiana, and to think you had a shot to live in Austin.
Austin is a progressive town, the heart of Texas and the capital, as well a world class University town. In Indiana, they still haven't got around to putting a deposit on cans, probably because they are so right wing, they don't want to see kids collect them for pocket money. 'Nuff said.
