Use a number of approaches. In addition to the online sights there are the Washington Post Classifieds (Thursday and Saturday are big for Apartment listings) or the Apartment Guide in just about every grocery store, by the doors. The former (the Post) is good for people looking for roommates and for individual renters, and the latter, the guide, is good for complexes. They have some good charts comparing prices and features.

You could also check the City Paper - it's DC but it has some Arlington stuff since Arlington is so close, and there are some local papers, the Connection, and such, that also have ads.

You can use the web on sites such as www.apartments.com, www.rent.com. and www.apartmentguide.com but you may need to drive around Arlington and see what each neighborhood is like. Some apartments you can walk to the metro if that is what you want and some others you cannot. Some one bedrooms are over $2,000 a month and some are cheaper (Columbia Pike corridor). Good luck.

Whatever you do, DO NOT MOVE TO COLONIES OF ARLINGTON AT 1400 16TH SOUTH. DO NOT!!!!!
I used to live there. That place is a hell hole, crawling with roaches and mice!!!! The rent is high and you have to pay for utilites, there is no parking!
The listing looks nice, but be warned! It's not!
Other than that, I have no idea.
Try www.washingtondc.craigslist.org
Good luck!
