I was also 8, although I, as are most members, was encouraged to educate myself and come to understand on my own what is truth. Of three sons I was the only one that decided the church was right and true, and it took me some time before I was certain. I was about 19 when I actually understood what I believed. I then went on to study hundreds of religions and also the deeper parts of the Mormon religion. In the end I could not deny the feelings and the answers I received to my prayers; it also makes complete logical sense to me. Denying my faith would be like denying my own existence. I do continue to respect all people for their beliefs as I have a better understanding of those beliefs. Religion is personal and based on faith so no one but one's self can know what and why they believe and whether it is true.

I was baptized at 8. Went on a mission and then realized that the church I had been baptized into was not the same as the church that Joseph Smith founded. I also found out that "spiritual promptings" aren't spiritual at all. So it took me many years now, but better late than never. At least I can say that when I did figure out that I should leave the church, I was much happier as a result.
Don't worry, if you think and study hard, you'll find your way out of the church!

Hey Anna V, what does your answer have to do with how old someone was when they were baptized?

At 8 years old, the standard age in the mormon church. Way before an age where informed consent on the part of the child could be invoked, and just as wrong as catholics who baptize their children shortly after birth.
Fortunately, I came to my senses later in life. I found out the truth about Joseph Smith the treasure hunter, charlatan, and convicted felon. I found out the truth about the temple rituals adpated from Freemasonry, the lies and cover-ups the church has perpetuated, and the church doctrines which fly in the face of logic and evidence. And I got out, thankfully.
One would think that at 33 you'd have enough common sense to see through the superstition and myth...sad that you did not. So do your research now, find out the true origins of the church and its founders -- not just what church authorities tell you. You might be quite surprised what you've gotten yourself into.
Best of luck, and Peace.
