Its not a scam, as long as you are buying from someone reputable. Its a great way to save some $$,a nd in my opinion, its often times a very good way to go, as when the manufacturer refurbs the TV, they also do a lot of testing of it- moreso than a new TV reveives. Just bear in mind that your warranty is a lot shorter on refurbs.

Actually it is probably better than a new one. A technician has gone over the unit and certified that it is working properly now. This did not happen on a factory new unit, someone maybe turned it on and said its OK.

A refurbished unit could have had anything from a major problem to the previous owner not knowing how to operate it.

In either case some technician has gone over the unit and now says its OK. Like anything you buy make sure you get a factory warranty

Typically, if it is factory refurbished, that means it was sent back and repaired, but the company won't always say what was fixed. It might be something as minor as a button not working.
The thing to check is if the warranty is still intact. I think buying any major electronic device without a warranty is more worrisome than buying something that is factory refurbished.

Theoretically, the company has fixed it back to factory specs.

But I've never bought one and probably never would as, in my experience, the discount isn't large enough to chance what's kinda sorta second-hand goods.
