I think you have to be careful with generalization. Not all "Christians" are actually attempting to operate under the spirit of God.
There were many things in the New Testament that Jesus spoke of that changed from the Old Testament. When Jesus came, he taught more about grace and such. Ex. Old Testament teaching of "Eye for and Eye" yet Jesus amended that and taught "Turn the other cheek".
The best thing that you could possibly do to answer your question is read the Bible. Only then can you truly understand for yourself.

In truth the Old Testament does count. It give historical and spiritual merit to the entire Bible and much more. Some denomination teach their doctrine exclusively on the New Testament, this is a minor group. By majority the word of God in the Christian Faith takes in consideration both the Old and New Testament.
P.S. Homosexuality is a reproach both in the Old and New Testament.

The OT, the Law, is what Jews live under today. We have the old and new covenant. Concepts like "you shall not covet" are explained in depth in the NT. The Law was not "done away with but fulfilled" LOOOOOOOng story. Sins like homosexuality or multiple marriages are expressly forbidden in the NT as are many others.
A Jew-Peter was told to eat pork in the NT, signifying a change in dispensation. Man was justified by faith not works. The bottom line is nature even teaches you what is sin, and you can choose to ignore it, as many do. You are free to sin, but the consequences are just.

Paul taught that that kingdom of God is not a matter of food but the heart- even JESUS said the heart of the law is what counts- however the NT did not change the view of homosexuality being a sin- In Romans 1 it clearly states that. A sin is a sin is a sin~~

Only certain denominations of Christianity believe that the OT doesnt count. But they are wrong. The OT and NT go hand in hand . Jesus preached the OT, as did the Apostles and they also preached the word of Jesus Certain laws Jesus did overrule such as the food laws. Mark 7 says
. 15Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "[f]
17After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18"Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")
20He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "
And Acts 10 says
9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
14"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."
15The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."
16This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
As for the sexual laws all of those are still in force and fall under the commandment of do not commit adultery and it is preached through out the OT and the NT

A TRUE Christian would say no such thing. 2 Tim. 3:16, 17 says: "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."
Jesus set the example. When tempted by the Devil, Jesus repeatedly quoted from the OT by saying: "It is written."
The NT also condemns homosexuality. 1 Cor. 6:9 says that men who lie with men will not inherit God's kingdom.

I am a Christian and I definitely think the old testament counts. The 10 commandments are in there and the creation.

Because God changed the law about what we eat saying that nothing is unclean. At the same time, God repeated His condemnation of homosexuality. All you have to do is read His Word.

Christians do not say it doesn't count, but they say we are saved by God's grace giving us faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Most Christian faiths, including Catholics, agree that you cannot be saved by your works or by following the laws of the Old Testiment.
In other words, you cannot earn heaven by being good enough for God.
