With age peoples metabolism slows down and the body replaces old cells at a slower rate. I'm 55 and have noticed that I think a little bit slower than I used to but not much slower yet. I still have a desire to learn--part of being smart is wanting to learn new things. People usually learn more about things they are interested in.

Do not confuse smart, or intelligence with wisdom, and common sense.

People like to have everything provided for them including how, or what to think.
Is it any wonder then that most lack the ability to obtain the knowledge needed to form and educated opinion for themselves, let alone defend their position on a topic, and debate it.

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.
(Mark Twain).

No one reads.... anything. No newpaper, no magazine, and God forbid, certainly not a book. Ask a middle schooler how many books he's read in his life. Good chance he'll laugh and say " None!" But what about school book reports? They just get the info on line ( or from a YA user here) or just take a zero.
