G'day,

Mostly accept Visa and Mastercard (very unusual to accept one and not the other). Bigger stores, petrol stations & supermarkets accept AMEX as well. Not many for Diners Club.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip and welcome to Australia :)

I have Visa and Amex. Visa is the most widely accepted of all cards, Diners Club would be the least. Occasionally there is a sporting event which is sponsored by one of the cards and you must use that card to buy tickets on credit. They still take cash and EFTPOS though. These occasions, however, are rare. If you want a one-card-fits-all for Australia, Visa or Mastercard (but not both) is all you need.

The Australian credit card Bankcard is still seen but it is being phased out.

Best bet would be Visa, but mastercard and amex also accepted. Some places charge you a surplus for using credit though, so look out for signs.

Either one is fine.
There are a few places that will only take only Visa or only Mastercard - but this is VERY, VERY RARE .
