Have strong people at even intervals and have the hevey people in the back and dont have them around the rope. Tried it once and I pulled something in my back.

If you want to use some strategy then you need everyone to let go of the rope at the same time for 2 seconds, then grab the rope and pull again. Most everyone on the pulling side will fall or lose their balance.

Rather than what most people do, place the heaviest and strongest person in the front of the line. Once that person goes, front or back of the line, so goes the team.
