Sit ups are bad for your back if you don't have the correct form - which most people don't. If you use an ab roller, then it controls your position. My only other suggestion is lipo - only because I only know 4 ways to lose belly fat, 2 you mentioned, lipo, and anorexia (which I could never recommend!)

Well I suggest not doing sit ups but doing crunches instead. Done properly they are very easy on your back and a very effective way to tone your tummy (many workout videos are specific for ab excersises and teach you how to do them properly). However you can not spot train to lose your belly....you must also eat a well balanced diet and do moderate excersise 4-5 times a week. You can always do aerobics from your home (lots of great at home DVD's for doing excerise, I recommend anything by Kathy Smith). You can also invest in a good treadmill. I love my treadmill...I work out 20 minutes on the treadmill every morning while watching the morning news and then 20 minutes of weights in the evening. I use the Kathy Smith "Lift Weights to Lose Weight" DVD. It has 2 x 20 minute workouts (one for upper body, one for lower body) and a bonus abs section. After having two kids this is how I got rid of my baby belly fat (although I still have loose skin on my belly - my abs are tight and flat). Unfortunatly you have to do a well rounded work out and eat a well balanced diet to acheive maximum results...spot training just doesn't work. Good Luck.
ADD
You can work out your abs everyday...I usually excersise during the week and take a break on weekends.

You HAVE to do cardio to lose belly fat. Sit-ups/crunches will only strengthen the muscles under the fat... the cardio will shed it so that you can see the toned muscles. If you don't want to run in a polluted city, then join a gym, or buy some cardio workout DVD's. You just have to stay motivated and on top of it 3-4 times a week!

I just started with the best thing I have found. web search- Hip hop abs. I promise I am only a customer not any other part of the company. If you can't afford the cost of the DVD, read about how to do the exercise on the web site. So you know it's around $59 for the package or 3 payments of 19.99.
From watching it on tv I started doing the movements around my house prior to ordering and I saw a differece right away.

Ok, what you have already heard is truth...you must have a strict diet and do lots of cardio to loose that gut. And if you had a baby, you have a pouch that is very difficult to loose. It takes time, and a lot of hard work, and sacrifice, but can be done. Crunches are better for your back than sit-ups. Pilates are supposed to work great. I suggest you do a little research into toning up, and find something you enjoy.

Stomach exercises are only bad for your back if they are performed incorrectly.
Try some core-concentrated exercise on a work-out tape. Kathy Smith's Project you has a whole section devoted to the core.
And if you want to lose the fat, you'll have to do some cardio: biking, swimming...etc. and cut some calories.

overall weight (fat) loss - we cant choose which body parts to lose weight off and which not
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You can't specifically lose tummy fat. If you do cardio and eat less calories than you burn in a day, you will lose fat.

I'm not sure if this works, but just try it. You know those fiber drinks, well just mix it in with whatever you're eating. It is tastless and makes you fee full. Hope this helps.
