You will either need to buy Adobe Acrobat (not reader) or perhaps convert the pdf to another format.

Linux has PDF editors, but I don't know of any free ones for Windows.

You don't type in a pdf, you generate one usually by typing the 'original document' in whatever application, such as Word, then you 'print' it to a pdf file.

If you only want to generate a few pdfs, you can do it for free on-line at the adobe website, but you do have to register to do this and you are limited to something like 5 pdfs a month. Plus it is fairly inconvenient. The best way is to buy some pdf writing software. The genuine Adobe pdf writer is over £250!!! You can get other non-Adobe pdf writering software, much more cheapely. Alternatively, EBay has some, er, cough cough, knock off copies of Adobe Acrobat going cheap...

If it is a PDF form on which you are supposed to type, open it with Adobe Reader, then click the Help button. You will see an option for Adobe Reader Essentials. If you downloaded Adobe Reader ver 8 you will see a myriad of capabilities.

If it is a PDF on which you cannot type, you can convert it to Word. There is a free online converter at www.media-convert.com.

I have PDF Converter 3 so I open the PDF with that, and it automatically sends it to Word.

If you have a scanner, you can print the PDF, scan it as OCR (optical character recognition), and save it as a Word file.

Adobe Acrobat is dear. Try Serif Pageplus, version 10 or higher. Download an earlier version (or get it off a mag), register on their website, ths will enable you to buy the latest version for £20 instead of £100 +.
With this you can edit PDF's. It's also one of the best desktop publisher programs letting you do posters, newsletters, etc.

As it stands you can't. That is one of the reasons for PDF. If you buy Foxit reader, (the pro version that you pay for, not the freebie) you can save the document as a text file and work with that.

The idea is that it's read-only, so you can't alter the text (as in contracts, quotes, etc). You may be able to save it as a MS Word .doc file or .txt file, change it, then resave it to PDF.

Good luck!

Another option... print the document, then scan it and use an OCR software (text recognition) to create an editable document.... most scanners have that kind of software, so if you have one check if it does....
