Haha, No kidding, they are SO CHEESY!!!

Its like you don't even have to put any thought into it, you just say "I want a Tattoo, I'm going to get this black piece of crap cause I'm SOOOOO ORIGINAL"

Tribals are for children who want to look cool and 50 year old men who ride motorbikes in business suits....

Who said you have to be part of a tribe to get a tribal tattoo? The same goes for characters and writing in other languages. If it has meaning to you and suites you then cool. I have a Kanji that I know is correct and no Japanese in me. Does that make me some kind of tattoo poser? No ... just means that it's what fit me more than getting the actual animal that my tattoo stands for. What do you have against people getting something tribal without being in a tribe? It's not a big deal ... plus they are traditional so many are attracted to them.

To me tribal is just another style of tattooing. Like old school, or portrait. Some people like it , some don't. I don't have any, but every day at the shop someone is getting it. I have seen many butterflies on many women. Lots of stars, swallows, and hearts. Some people just like it, even still. I am a huge tattoo fan. So, i don't look down on people's ink. Calling one style of tattooing over done, and not another is kind of wrong in itself. People get lots of tattoos everyday, of just about any symbol you can think of.

Actually, I DO have tribal heritage. Don't assume that nobody does, just because YOU aren't. I have Cherokee heritage that can be traced back through my father's side of the family, and one of my great grandmothers from my mother's side of the family was a full-blooded Choctaw Indian. While a large part of society may not be part of a tribe or have tribal heritage, it doesn't mean that nobody is or has tribal heritage.

Tribal is just a description of a tattoo style. For instance, there are Celtic tattoos that are unique to this type of style. Celtic and Tribal bands typically go around the arm, but the style is very different.

There are some interesting things being done using negative space, color, and stylistic fusion, i.e., celtic/tribal fusions but the total black, pointy, curvy thing just bores me. Its become the default tattoo for the "I want one but don't know what to get" client. On the positive note for the tattoo industry though, I see a never ending stream of tribals being covered up.

i totally agree and am constantly trying to talk people out of getting random "tribal" tattoos. not only are they likely not in a tribe but they aren't living in 1995 when tribal was all the rage.

All b/c tribal tats look cool! Also alot of times they are used to just blend or connect other tattoos together. No tribe, just art!
