I am trying to quit, and i didn't know it was so hard. I can't even go two hours without getting so frustrated. I am trying the Nicorette Gum 2 & 4 mg for now. But i need something else to help me. I have tried visiting quitassist.com, but that doesn't help me any. It gives me the nicotine i need, but it doesn't stop the hand to mouth. Can anyone help me?

When I was on the gum, I tried to keep my hands busy. I had pencils, pens, and a stress ball. To keep my mouth busy, I had altoids (or peppermint candy to keep my mouth fresh), licorice, straws, gummy bears, carrot sticks, and celery sticks. If I couldn't have a nicorette gum yet but was still craving, I will chew a reg gum and twirl it in my finger while I chewed. Yeah, kinda gross but it really helped the hand/mouth motion. I also put a rubber band on my wrist. Every time I got a craving, I would snap it. Or I would brush my teeth. And my tongue for a while until the craving wore off. Or when I got really frustrated, I would run really fast to break a sweat. Or I would scrub something in the house. Kept me busy for hours. Or I would gulp water down until it passed. Keep at it. When you get a craving, if you wait 10 mins, it'll pass. Slowly breathe deep in and out when the cravings hit. Do this until the 10 mins pass. Throw out all the cigs, even the secret stash ones so there's no temptation. The first 3 days will be the hardest. But once you get over that 3 day "hump" it gets a little easier. Smoke will start to stink, you'll smell and taste better and even your skin will look better. I used the patch to quit. Whichever you choose to quit, remind yourself to keep going through the whole system. I wish you all the best!

Both my husband and I successfully quit smoking with The Commit Lozenge. It is a bit pricey but it worked! And you can always find a coupon for it on line. Another tip is black licorice. It has something in it that replicates that of nicotine. And as far as the hand to mouth action, use a pen or something that is safe to put in your mouth and feels like a ciggie. You may feel stupid but isn't sucking on a burning stick even more insipid? Good luck! You can do it!

I quit with hypnosis (one session was all it took) and the patch. I don't even know what she said to me (I went to sleep), but you have to really want to quit. If you're not ready, don't bother trying. If you are, your will power should be sufficient. Just think, if you can wait ten minutes, you can wait half an hour. If you can wait half an hour, you can wait an hour, and so on. After one day, it's nothing but better and better as days go by. You will be so proud of yourself. My motivation was my children.

Go see your doctor they have medication which will help with the craving. The hand to mouth thing I used chocolate and now I weigh over 300 pounds so unless you want to get fat don't do that.

in my case, not a heavy smoker, i cut it down little by little, then, near the end, i puffed the cigarette without lighting it for a while. On the nights when i was really craving, i took sleeping pills. In addition, i try to go out, walking, running. Try to keep yourself busy. i made it in 2 months. Good luck !

My dad used cocktail straws for the hand to mouth thing, you can put them in your mouth and inhale through them- gives you that pull that a ciggie does. No calories, no chewing.

Best of luck to you!

I read about a man who made his doctor write a fake lung cancer diagnosis letter... he stop smoking because he knew that diagnosis was going to be for real in a few years if he didn't.
