That would really make the little brats sit up and pay attention.

I've read the entire thing many times, Mr Math.

The whole thing cracks me up.

But then it makes me sad that such nonsense and lies have control over simple minded people.

They actually DID teach that story to us in our primary school. A public school, but this was in South Africa and I suppose religion is still very much taught in schools, unfortunately. One of our teachers used this message in his religious opening to really show the kids why adults should be respected!

Even at that early age I had a bit of a rebellious side. And this opening sermon filled me with disgust. Respect is something that is earned I believed and I also thought that it should be mutual. You cannot simply receive respect for being a certain magic number and then misuse your power. Don't know, things like these were probably part of what drove me away from Christianity anyway.

Apologists would tell you that it wasn't children, but "youths" or young men (as if age makes a difference). They would also tell you that these young men were mocking Elisha's office as state-appointed prophet, and to mock the religious man is to mock his god. They would probably also tell you that these youths were idolaters who worshiped the golden calf. So with this information in mind, we can see that the young men had a violent death coming to them, doubly.

Funny you should ask that because I didn't know of it until a few months ago...I never learned it in Sunday School...I only learned it through the Bible. I don't know why we never we're taught of it...Thanks for the question I'll ask my former Sunday School teacher and our pastor of it.

That's one of my favorite stories from the bible -- and remember, since the Holy Trinity is the three-who-is-also-one, that was JESUS (who loves the little children, dontcha know?) sending the bears to maul the little tykes for making fun of an old man's bald spot....

Yes we do teach this to children and adults alike.

Psalms 105:15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

Everyone needs to know not to mock or mess with anything that is of God.

I'm pretty sure they left that out of the children's bibles and the sunday school classes.

Yeah apparently God can kill whomever he pleases and be justified if it's for his glory.

Actually, according to my wife, they did in hers, and that was her first time she went "I don't want this god."
