Charlie: thanks for the comments, I find that when I listen to some worship music it helps to relax me and then my mind is free to worship without it. I also have a 3 yr old who is very distracting, but sometimes I can put on headphones and just feel god's love through the music.

I enjoy many different types. I prefer Hindu devotional music, because it really sounds so loving of God, and brings out my own feelings of devotion and love. I also like some Christian music I found by these Jesuits, called the St. Louis Jesuits. It has a nice Irishy sound to it, and the words are great. The words are taken from the Bible or from famous prayers - like one of St. Francis of Assisi, or St. Augustine, and they are very touching.

I have found a Buddhist chant I love, which sounds very calming and it prays for happiness to be sent out to all beings.

I also sometimes think of my own songs that come when I'm deep in prayer to God. I can't usually remember them after I'm done praying, but they are so beautiful.

Some contemporary is OK. You really have to watch, however because the message has become so "seeker friendly" that good theology is not maintained. I prefer the old Hymns for the words because their theology was TIGHT. See "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness" that to me talks about Christ's full accomplishment of salvation on the Cross. Matt Redman, for example, in "I Stand in Awe of You" he says "Jesus, I am so in love with You." --I don't know how I feel about that. It almost feels blasphemous to tell Jesus you are "in love" with Him. I may be crazy.

I meditate with starstreams or other similar non-vocal ambient electronica. Voices are too distracting.

Why do people have to be such dorks? Anyway, I love Contemporary Christian. Point of Grace, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mercy Me, Casting Crowns. Really too many to name. I never feel closer to God, than when I'm listening to music that praises Him.

None. It totally distracts me. Its also hard to hear ritual above music all though some do the drum circle which can be cool.

Redmon is cool. So is Chris Rice, Darlene (Check, sorry, an't remember how to spell her name). My favs right now are "I Am Free" (I prefer the Newsboys live version) and "Everlasting God" from Lincoln Brewster. I like anything that is theologically sound (especially the old hymns, but I know I'm in the minority nowadays...).
