use the web to your advantage. make yourself a music myspace, make videos of yourself singing and put them on youtube, and you can use singshot.com

OK, my advice and opinion.
You not say how old you are.
Church Choir is a start. Yea, sounds silly, but, you have to "Learn" to sing.
Take lessons. This is not something you just start screaming into a microphone and think you sound good.
In College I would listen to girls prepare for their Exams. This consisted of singing. One thing they did was sit at a Tuned Piano and Sing each note up the scale. This means making your voice match the key being played. I loved to hear them practice, their voices were clear and in tune with the note.
Can you sing up the Piano Scale? This is called; "Voice Training".
Then you do UTube and make a few sound tracks. Maybe someone be interested in working with you.

For someone starting out, my advise is to get your name out there. Start by getting a song that you sing very well on a karaoke cd. Try to get it as high quality if possible. Practice, practice, practice. Find a local recording studio, and have them record you singing over the track. Now, they will burn you a cd of the finished product. Burn as many as you can and start handing them out to anybody in the music business, like, agents, managers, things like that. You have to get your name out there.
