Bless you for saving a dog.
You might want to check with the local pound or humane society though. Someone could have stolen the dog and dumped him at the park and the owners could be looking for him. It would be bad if it came to a lawsuit for them to get their dog back.

It is really nice of you to take the dog in.
People abandon pets for lots of reasons and they can get out and get lost too.
Some people can't afford to keep their animals or they didn't realize how much work they were. Where I live many shelters won't take the animals that people can no longer take care of they are often too full and they have to pay to have them put down.
I knew someone who had a cat that they couldn't keep anymore because she had a baby and the father left so she was all on her own and no one would help her with the cat none of the shelters and the vet had no suggestions. It is sad but sometimes people are actually hoping if they abandon their animal is found by someone like you. Luckily my friend found a home for her kitty but not everyone is so lucky

Lots of people get puppies because they love the idea of a puppy. Their neighbor has a litter of backyard bred puppies and talks a person into taking one, which is easy to do because they are so adorable.
Then the reality sets in. The puppy pees and poops all over the house. The person doesn't know the first thing about dogs, has no clue how to housetrain a dog, etc. It becomes overwhelming, trying to keep up. The puppy bites their hands when they play with it. It tears things up and no amount of punishment makes it stop.
So, rather than taking the dog for training, where the person can learn some simple solutions, they dump the puppy.
Or sometimes, people fall in love with the neighbor's backyard bred puppy, but just can't afford to take care of it, or their circumstances change, so they dump it.

I dont know how people can do that. I love my pets. I have gotten most of my kitties as strays and also brought home a dog once that I found but the owner claimed him. Apparenty he ran away. Atleast i had the poor thing long enough to give him a bath and brush him. You could tell he was very neglected. Good for you for having a big heart and taking the doggie in. he will love you for it. strays often make the best pets because they are greatful to there rescuers.
By the way Cindy P.. LOVED your answer. it was very amusing and educating..

Because they're too lazy to try to sell the pet or something, so they figure " Oh, someone will take pity and care for it, so we can just dump it on the road. "
A friend of mine's neighborhood used to have frequent abandoned pets from people so much that a stray dog would almost always be seen out in the road. It was so bad someone put a thing in the paper about it and demanded people stop doing that.

You should put a "Found" sign up at the park just to cover your tush. My husbands' friend found an 'abandoned' dog in the same manner, took him home, and 2 weeks later had the cops at his front door. Apparently, the family had taken the dog to the park and it ran off...their friend saw him walking the dog a few days later. Especially if it's such a well behaved dog; most people just abandon 'headache' animals.
good luck.

When I was younger it was normal to let the pet go in the woods rather than go to the SPCA. I know better now and it horrifies me when people do that.
Maybe the pick-a-poo got out and was lost. If the little angel was abandoned, then double shame and God will get them. He loves animals or else he wouldn't have had Noah put hem on the ark.
God Bless you for your kindness and compassion.
You have a beautiful soul!!

A couple of months ago, someone abandoned 3 lab.blue heeler mix pups near our home. We took them in, got their shots, and found homes for 2 of them. We are keeping the third. We had her spayed so there won't be any unwanted pups. We will still find her a home if we can. People get a cute little puppy, but tire of it after it grows out of the puppy stage. These [i[s were almost grpwn. So sad.

I love you!! Will you come and live by me? Why is it that inhumanity is a term we constantly have to use to describe our fellow humans? How is it that people can have no respect for god's helpless creatures? It is unfathomable. The only ways I could find to feel better about what my fellow man is doing are: to volunteer for a rescue group and foster poor abandoned dogs until I can find them good homes and to adopt rescued dogs for my own family. It is immensely rewarding in a world like this. Sounds like you may on your way to the same place?

yours is a precious soul. I dont understand ?why? either. starting with why dont they take it to a rescue if they cant care for or just plain dont want it; too embarrased? I'd rather they be on the list the husband who was a rescue volunteer compiled, than them choose to leave a helpless defenseless animal to starve, be hit by a car or worse. (u might ck to make sure it doesn't have a microchip) I hope this little angel remains in your home feeling loved and cared for until his last breath, I know that I am sure that is what he will offer u.
God bless you!
