I just started taking abilify, I already take lamictal and klonopin. Yesterday was my first day taking it, I slept pretty much all day, and was very sick to my stomach.. I don't know if I'm just not feeling well or is it this medicine already, I was against taking this medicine from the beginning but my Doc, asked me to at least try it, but I have been doing great with the meds, I have already been taking. Can this medicine cause you to become sick that fast? I was so mean yesterday and I am still so sick to my stomach.

I take abilify. It made me sick to my stomach a lot as a side effect for the first week. It went away after that. Feeling sick, nausious, having body aches and pains are all normal when you first start taking ANY psychoactive medication. I'm surprised you never had any sort of similar reaction when beginning the lamictal and klonopin.

Like everyone else said, you might just be getting sick because you resent taking that medication too. Keep in mind that abilify is meant to keep you stable, whereas lamictal and klonopin only treat symptoms of illness. It will start really working in a couple of months; sooner or later depending on your body.

Although I have not ever used lamictal in my medications, I have used Abilify and Klonopin. The Abilify did not cause me any stomach upset and I tolerated it very well, on an full or empty stomach. I too was very reluctant to even try it, for I have tried so many other medications in this category and with miserable side effects. So I was wrong with Abilify and it truly helped.
However the Klonopin needed to be taken with some food or milk or else I became very nauseaous and queasy. I took it in small, very small doses and then worked up to like 1 to 2mg maximum.

It could be you are reacting badly to it because you didn't want to start taking it in the first place, this can happen especially since you may resent taking it or are nervous or upset about taking it. Or it could be its the medication or a stomach bug.

Most medications side effects dissipate within a few days to ten days and then you are fine. But I would check with your pharmacist or doctor, make sure you are taking it the way they suggest either with food or without etc. Ask if this is a side effect and if so how long does it usually last.

Hopefully it will pass shortly but I wouldn't rule out you just might be sick and it has nothing to do with the medication. Usually side effects that happen immediately are short lived.

Abilify is an excellent medication in mainting wellness with bi polar disorder, your doctor has probably prescribed it because you are doing well and he wants you to maintain this wellness. Which is a good thing.

I've been taking it for about a month and a half with my Lexapro (30mg) and Klonopin (1.5mg). At first, I started at 5mg and I immediately had the side effects of being tired and an upset stomach but it was only for about 2 days. That passed and I was FINE for the next few weeks. BUT, 5mg wasn't really enough for me and I didn't notice any difference in my mood, etc., so I was raised to 10 mg about 10 days ago. OMG, I feel like crap.

Now, a I get extreme fatigue and 'restless legs'. I feel like I want to just lay down in the street because I'm so tired but when I lay down, I want to stand up because I toss and turn. It's causing me to nod out and feel drunk/drugged. I take the pill in the morning and by the early evening I can barely stand and I get dizzy, lightheaded and feel like I'm going to pass out. I randomly get nauseous and forced myself to throw up the other night because I couldn't take it anymore.

So, 5mg was not enough for me and 10mg is too much. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow to see what to do. I may try taking it before bed in hopes that I won't have the side effects when I'm awake or else I have to get off this medication. I'm cannot function properly on it and it's ruining things for me because I can't walk straight sometimes.

It's possible that the Klonopin mixed with the Abilify is creating part of the sleepiness problem now but I tried cutting back on that and my panic attacks, anxiety and paranoia came back when I took a smaller dose of Klonopin. I may just hate Abilify.

BUT, to answer your question, you CAN have immediate side effects from a medication. I had nausea from Lexapro the first 3 days but it passed, same with the Abilify but it's constant since the dose was raised.

Abilify ain't cool dude. That is medication that was originally prescribed only for serious schizophrenics. Somehow, its manufacturers have been able to market it as a common anti-depressant/mood stabilizer for even the most least sever forms of depression and bipolar disorders. My advice, get off that stuff. Find a new psychiatrist, and move on to something less severe.

It's certainly possible. Maybe it would work better if you took a lower starting dose....it's worth asking your doctor about.
I didn't have any stomach problems with Abilify, but it made me insanely restless. My step-daughter and one of my friends have been on it and both responded extremely well to it. Usually side effects like upset stomach will go away after a couple of weeks.

How should I take Klonopin?

Take Klonopin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
Swallow the regular tablet whole, with a full glass of water. Klonopin should be used for only a short time. Do not take this medication for longer than 9 weeks without your doctor's advice.
To take the orally disintegrating tablet (wafer):
- Keep the tablet in its blister pack until you are ready to take it. Open the package and peel back the foil from the tablet blister. Do not push a tablet through the foil or you may damage the tablet.
- Using dry hands, remove the tablet and place it in your mouth. It will begin to dissolve right away.
- Do not swallow the tablet whole. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing.
- Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves. If desired, you may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.
To be sure Klonopin is not causing harmful effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your liver function may also need to be tested. Visit your doctor regularly.
Do not stop using Klonopin without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel fine. You may have increased seizures or unpleasant withdrawal symptoms if you stop using this medicine suddenly. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using this medicine.
You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Your doctor may also prescribe another seizure medication for you to start while you are stopping Klonopin.
Keep track of the amount of medicine used from each new bottle. Klonopin is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription.
Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

Abilify like other anti-psychotic drugs, the mechanism of action of aripiprazole is unknown. Moreover, like other anti-psychotics, it blocks several receptors on the nerves of the brain for several neurotransmitters (chemicals that nerves use to communicate with each other). It is thought that its beneficial effect is due to its effects on dopamine and serotonin receptors. Its effects on these receptors are complex, involving stimulation of the receptors but to a lesser degree than the naturally-occurring neurotransmitters (a process called partial agonism). The FDA approved aripiprazole in November 2002.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Carbamazepine (Tegretol) can markedly decrease the amount of aripiprazole in the body by increasing the rate at which the body's enzymes (particularly the liver enzyme, CYP3A4) degrade it. The manufacturer recommends that patients on aripiprazole who are started oncarbamazepine double their dose of aripiprazole, under their doctor's supervision. Other drugs that can promote the activity of CYP3A4 and decrease the body's levels of aripiprazole are phenytoin (Dilantin), rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate), and phenobarbital.
Ketoconazole (Nizoral) can increase the amount of aripiprazole in the body by blocking CYP3A4. The manufacturer of aripiprazole recommends reducing the dose of aripiprazole by one-half during ketoconazole therapy. Many other drugs also are known to block CYP3A4 and potentially could increase the levels of aripiprazole, but their actual effects on aripiprazole levels have not been studied. Such drugs include: itraconazole (Sporanox),fluconazole (Diflucan), voriconazole (Vfend), cimetidine (Tagamet),verapamil (Calan, Isoptin), diltiazem (Cardizem, Dilacor), erythromycin, clarithromycin (Biaxin), nefazodone (Serzone), ritonavir (Norvir), saquinavir(Invirase), nelfinavir (Viracept), indinavir (Crixivan), and grapefruit juice.

I cannot give you any info on the drugs you are taking but if you would like to find out more about drug free therapy then I suggest checking out energy therapy such as EFT.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a totally drug free way to learn how to help yourself and it works for all sorts of issues.

I am not saying you should stop any of your medication - but you have nothing to lose by checking out EFT - you may be very surprised by the help it can give you.

You can find out more from these web sites below.

Maybe you are feeling sick because you didn't want to take it in the first place. Just go with it give it time try to relax if it makes you sleepy go to sleep this should be a temporary thing while your body adjusts to it. if you are still unsure after a week tell your doctor how you are feeling.
