Yes they can and charge you boarding fees for each day.
They won't make payment arrangements? Are you sure you did not make the dog suffer having that much surgery done?

You really don't have to go to the vet for this. I was worried about my dog's first tick too. At first I tried a spray but it did nothing, then I bought a pair of tick pliers at a pet supply shop and it worked like a charm. All you do is pinch and twist, and be sure that you took out the entire tick. When you see the feet of the tick you have it all. I don't do anything after that.

The Er vet we took our boston too held me and our boston untill hubby go back with the check book. It was kinda funny.
Most vets will work out a payment plan with you expecaly in cases like that. They will expect so much now and the rest later. I dont knwo if they can keep your dog but im sure they dont wnat to keep your dog.
Alot of vets also do CARE cards. Its a credit card with a very low interstate rate and can only be used by vets.

I assume they don't take your type card as the reason they won't accept it. most places will work with you if you ask. Since you do have a card try to get an advance from it to pay for maybe part of the bill...like a down payment...then make arrangements for the rest. If you show some kind of good faith on your part they should too. I have never heard of a vet keeping your animal....suing you yes...keeping your dog...no.

They shouldn't. In fact, they would want to get the dog off their hands so they won't be providing room and board for your pet.
Have you offered to try to work out a payment plan with the vet, since you don't have the cash up front?

Most vets would be willing to work out payments or maybe a deal. I was in the same situation about four years ago and my vet was very accomodating. I found out he needed some landscaping done and spent several weekends in his yard. He considered it paid in full.

Ur position seems to be very sad friend. Vet can keepur dog,but be sure that he looks after it well. But leaving the pet there makes the puppy more sick. What i mean to say is that it will become more sick without seeing u.So visit it daily twice. My message to ur dog is,get well soon dear dog.

I don't think they can keep your dog, but they can definitely sue you. I would post this question in the law section of this site to get a better answer. Make sure you include the state where you live in your question.

Should be willing to work out a payment plan; worst case they will try and take you to court for it.
