Henderson and Green Valley are the best areas.
Stay away from North Vegas .. North of paradise and around Nellis is the worst. Southwest, Southeast are the best.
I'll be moving to Henderson in October. Very very nice community!! Same with Green Valley

Well, I've lived here over 25 years, so I have to disagree with many of the answers posted so far. I live in Paradise Township. It's one of the two urban townships where the Strip is located. No. The Strip is not in Las Vegas and never has been. It's in Winchester and Paradise and is moving south into Enterprise. My home is located about fifteen minutes east of Bally's. I'm ten to twelve minutes from the minor league ball park in the City of Las Vegas, thirty minutes from Lake Mead, forty five minutes from the ski areas of Mount Charleston and less than fifteen minutes from the airport. I have shopping and schools close by and I've been in this house for over 22 years. Now, here's the dirty little secret about those newer areas that were being championed by many of the others who answered your question. There has been no housing development built since 1988 that has used even one board foot of kiln-dried lumber to frame the house. That means mold and dry rot abound in many of these "tony" neighborhoods. The major access to Summerlin is U.S. 95 which is still a commuting nightmare, despite its being expanded to ten lanes. I suggest you contact a reputable realtor who has worked in this market for more than ten years. That way you will get the good, the bad and the ugly presented to you so you can make a rational decision.

I live in the Green Valley area of Henderson and love it. It's a beautiful community & an easy commute to most areas. Summerlin is also a gorgeous area, but you will find commuting to downtown Las Vegas a bit more difficult.

Green Valley or Summerlin are known for the better schools and lower crime rate. But it all depends on your check book. Spanish Trails, Seven Hills or Lakes of Las Vegas if you can afford it.
