After the Watchtower organisation sold the former book plant in New York In 2004 for 205 million dollars more than fifty times the 3.9 million that they paid for it in 1983, I said they were a profit making organisation. Technically this was wrong so I apologise.

I will in future refer to them properly as a non profit making organisation that erm makes profits.

LMAO!!!! great one!

You never hear them mention how they got the money to buy it to begin with, by telling everyone the world was ending and to give their money to the Watchtower Society. Or that they never gave any of the "donations" back when the year came and went and the world didn't end after all.

I hate to say this but has your house stayed the same price as it was in 1983? NO - I didn't think so!!!!

What makes an organisation profit making or not is what they primarily do. Jehovah's Witnesses do NOT sell books, magazines etc any more, they are grateful for voluntary contributions made for the literature that they produce and distribute, which surprise, surprise comes with some cost. The sale of fixed assets do not contribute to whether an organisation is profit making or not.

Never the less, JW's are forgiving people so I'm sure they'll accept your apology.

would be quite silly to sell it for $3.9million if you can get more than $205 mill for it. non-profit organisation means that is an organisation whose primary objective is something other than the generation of profit. As the the use of these funds will be used to print more literature, build more building, etc. and not used to make money. it is inevitable that if you make purchase you will probably make a profit somewhere along the line, especially if in property.

Unlike Christendom's churches and organizations,
the President of the Watchtower Society makes the same amount of money as all the rest that works there. About 150 dollars a month. Hard to believe isn't it, but it is true.

Trust me, if they made a profit on a sale, the money was turned back to the cause they believe in.

Trust me, no Tammy Fayes or Pat Robertsons there.

Jehovah's Witness use the Watchtower Society as a organization for use in legal matters. They are not one and the same. The Watchtower Society holds copyrights to all of the literature published by the Jehovah's Witness group. The company's employees are actually volunteers who live in the complex. Donations are accepted.

Wow, so when they sold it, where did the money go??? hmmmm could it be the various publications and Kingdom Halls around the world?

Case in point, I volunteered at a museum. When they did make money, they were still a not for profit group, as they are not in it for the dough.

I am a frequent shopper at goodwill. They get money for items they don't pay for and are still a not for profit group.

What do you think they are Christendom, where each church leader would take a cut of the money.

The money was used to build the new residential building for the workers.

The one the city is complaining about because they REFUSE to accept RENTAL INCOME from shop keepers who would like to set up businesses on the first floor.

Google news stories about it. Any other church would be perfectly willing to accept the money.

When they come to your door, how much do they charge for the Watchtower and Awake magazines?
If you ask for a Bible, how much do they charge?
If you want a home bible study, how much do they charge?
If you go to a meeting, do they ask for money or pass a collection plate?
Answers:

Nothing
No.
I have often audited accounts for JW's and they don't pay anyone in any congregation, and give small allowancesfor full time workers.
Currently collecting wheel chairs for Africa, sometimes clothing, spectacles whatever.
All the money comes through VOLUNTARY donations.
If anyone gave any money hoping it would buy them a passage to heaven or a paradise earth, they didn't get the idea from Jehovah's witnesses teachings.
Look at their Meeting halls...lavish like cathedrals?...NOT!!

You know as well as any intelligent person who knows their dedication, that they used the money to build needed Kingdom Halls in poor countries where the people can't afford to build them , themselves. No money went into anyone's pocket. If there is a profit, it is to God's glory that he has such a wonderful organization on earth today doing his work.He is a living God, and this too is more proof, for witch I thank you!
