Our spirit goes to be with the Lord while our bodies remain in the grave until Jesus splits the skies to gather His children. That is what the Lord means when He says, "the dead in Christ shall rise first ." After that, the christians will be received up" ( 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ).

It is all a matter of what you believe. Since none of have died and have been able to report back what we actually experienced, it is up to each individual to believe as they choose.

Your question is specifically about what happens to Christians, so true Christians believe that when they die that they will go to heaven and live with Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. After a period of time and the earth has been destroyed, then a new earth will be formed and the christians will live there.

Each faith is different. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, etc. all believe something different and all believe their way is the right way.

This seems to touch on the belief of psychopannychia.
It's basically the belief or teaching that the soul falls into a state of unconsciousness, or sleep, after the body dies, and before resurrection.
Protestants and some Catholics usually do not believe this.

The Bible says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

So by that verse, we see that when we die, we are able to leave the body.
And, we would then be present with the Lord.

Their physical bodies will be in the grave. The essence of who they are, their spirit will be with the Lord in heaven. Lazarus' death, (obviously), was before the Lord's death. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ changed things a little from the way it was when Lazarus died. Before we were granted eternal life, saints slept in the grave. Thus, the reference in Psalms. In Thessalonians, Paul is referring to the physical bodies that will be resurrected for the final judgment. He said "those of us who remain" will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and there we will forever be with the Lord. Those who remain? Yes, the ones whose spirit remained on the earth. Paul said to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. That's pretty direct.

I agree with that in part, in that I mean, both are correct, it depends on who's perspective, you see, when a Christian Dies, he/she has no concept of time, it has no meaning from the deceased Christians perspective, time does not exist, nor does he/she experience the passage of time.
Example: lets say that a Christian Died 1000 years ago, and Jesus came tomorrow, from that Deceased Christians point of view, he just died, he did not experience the 1000 years of sleeping, even though he did sleep for 1000 years, it is just like when you went to sleep at night, did you experience the 8 or so hours of sleep. they did pass, but were you aware of each and every hour?
No, when you go to sleep and wake up, from your perspective, you just went to sleep, you did not experience the passage of time, thus is the way it is for the dead Christians, do you get what I mean?

Absence from the body is to be present with the Lord. It is appointed toward men, first to die and then to judgement.

They either go to Heaven immediately or lay in ground until second coming of Jesus and then are resurrected and live forever with spiritual bodies.

We, Christians, are different people. Don't generalize us. We can be good, like saints, or evil, like inquisitors, many crusaders or those fanatics who go around and "send" people to Hell.

No. Not all cristians go to Haven.

Sleep in the bible meant death.
Jesus told the thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise"
"To be absent from the body is to be present from the lord"
So the answer is Heaven/paradise
