encyclopedias..probably..bt if you want to learn more about what's really goin on/ current events, new experiments and findings, i suggest you also read magazines and newspapers.
They help alot - helps you gain more and learn more about you want to learn about the world, and most especially, they're cheap

Biographies of famous people of other countries is a good place to start. Churchill, Ghandi, Kruschev (sp?), and other widely respected folk -
Or bios of Nobel prize winners.
Great Literature is valuable, but bios give real life pictures.
Well done for wanting to imporve yourself. Never too late.
