I asked this question in General Society and Culture. Just so I don't have to rewrite it, can you read it there (or explain to me how I can transfer it).
But I am curious what people in this group thinks about it.

No!

In China people are revolting against the 1 child law. They have 40,000 men who cannot find a woman/wife. China thought it was a good idea to limit children, but it has backfired and caused unforseen problems.

Government should not forcibly control families.

* Manditory birth control? *

Here is what you said in the other question:
" Because of public transit, I recently overheard 2 people discussing the overpopulation of the world.
We have all seen the commercials stating that there are 24,000 children a day dying because of starvation, and children having children in this country that leads to extreme poverty and injustices in this country.
So my question to you. Should the U.N. via "Doctors without Borders" perform manditory hysterectomies (until there is a balance) in 3rd world countries and a manditory birthcontrol for girls under 18 yrs/old in North America.
Now put individual rights aside, afterall there is a very prevalent age discrimination already. Shouldn't whats best for society trump the rights of the individual? "

There is quite a bit of difference between the two questions.
I'll agree with you if first you, your family and everyone you hold dear or shares your views are sterilized first. We'll wait 100 years then if all is ok we'll think about doing it for very body else.

Birth control should mandatory for all religious zealots.
That way we could live in a nice secular society unblighted by corrupt superstitions and religious wars within a couple of generations.

Well this would never happen but hell yeah.
I had spent years working in child welfare and not only would I love to see this but me and every other yahoo who has ever worked in that field pretty much all agree there should be a test you have to take if you want to have children. There are way too many violent, drunken, cracked out, psychotic and just plain stupid people breeding like rabbits. A family court judge in my state after placing a couples 8th or 9th child in foster care put in the court orders they had to get "fixed" - of course it didnt hold up but it was a nice dream.

There are always problems with Mandatory birth control.

I'd be more supportive of responsible education about the long term issues of responsible family planning.

There are cases for enforced birth control - but ought to be carefully considered in a case by case situation.

... Mother of one & proud of it.

No I am not for big government. Some things are our business and not Big Brothers. The next thing will be authorized breeders. One will need a reproductive license. Then mandatory testing of all newborns. It continues from there....

No. It is a basic human rights violation.

China has mandatory birth control. If a woman does get pregnant, they abort the child. (Only one child per couple is allowed in China.)

It's not the government's business. They need to be out regulating trade with foreign nations or defending our borders, not worrying about how many kids I have. Ask China how it's working for them.

God created free will, not the gov't. To intrude on this point, although it could be well meaning, would open a flood of suggestions that would hurt alot of institutions and people of our culture.
