I agree with Adam, I see it too. Best you go somewhere else.

You can see by Jet's comments that Thailand is not like
it used to be.

Sorry Brian for what you have experienced in Thailand. This is happening in all of Southeast Asia. I visited Vietnam last summer (I'm an Amerasian), people stared at me with disgruntled faces and so Amerasian are looked down in Vietnam society because of war and stuff like that. Race does play a role in this and needs to be change, but these countries experienced a lot with foreigners (especially Americans), some bad , some good. Its a part of life. I experienced the same, but now you know that there are people feeling the same too.

It goes both ways. Like tooon68 said - look at yourself before blaming people around you first. True - not every Thai will be nice but that happens everywhere in the world.
A lot of Thai people don't lke farang because of the way farangs treat them - usually with great contempt, and order Thai workers or subordinates with no respect and like they were sub-human. How did you really treat people around you?

But if you don't like to go back there, then don't.

Hi Brian - if you have reservations abt it here, you should probably follow your gut feeling - may of us foreigners fall in love with the place and sometimes it gets under our skin too as the logic can be quite different from the West - but I think unless you are majoring in Thai language, you can probably do just as well getting an education near anywhere else.. good luck to you - - not every place works well for every one - and sometimes it can be just a small handful of people that shape our views...

Unfortunately, Thai people (not all, of course) and many other Asian cultural groups think that black people are somehow a "lower" human. In most Western countries, we are raised---and rightly so---to believe that all people are the same, and should be treated equally. Here in Asia, racism is much more condoned and accepted than in the West. Most Asian cultures tend to have very racist ideas towards each other, and towards people of African descent. Here in Thailand, babies that are born to Thai women fathered by African Amiercan tourists/boyfreinds usually end up in the orphanages b/c it is too "shameful" to have a half-black baby in this culture. Sad, but true.

I got the same response..., I went to Thailand expecting "the land of smiles", and got a bunch of bad vibes from people who refused to smile. Modern Thais, especially in the cities are corrupted by greed, and don't know a good thing when they haveit- rice in the fields, coconuts dropping off the trees.. They think they'd be better off in Chicago and that all westerners are rich, and should hand all their money over to them..
However, not all Thais are that way by far, and I also had many good times.
I am told for a really different experience in Thailand, go to the south, where all the Muslims live. It seems because, unlike the Buddhists, they believe in a vengeful God watching over them, so they are more likely to be friendly to those in need, and less likely to rip you off. (just don't rip them off and expect to keep your hands)

Thais are very upset with foreigners at this time. With the issues of aids drugs licenses, foreigner business laws, property ownership, and immigration rules. As for Jet's remarks he only answered the question as he seen it. No reason to attack someone for expressing their ideas

I second Tooon and Mr_mous.., and would like to propose Mr. Nowhereman to leave Thailand asap. He looks unhappy with our way of living and has tried to get involve with current political unrest.

For Mr. Nowhereman again, Leave if you're not happy. Behave if you live on the foreign land and do not interfere with our affairs. If you're interested in politics, go back home and do there.

First of all, you should look at yourself before you blame the people around you. 1 against 1000? who's right, who's wrong? How people in your neighborhood homeland treat you? Do they treat you well or do most of them show respect and love you?

I can tell you there is a strong anti-foreigner attitude in Thailand these days. They seem to hate anyone who is not Thai, and only put up with Tourist who spend money here..
