the chevy aveo is a pretty crappy car. The others are more reliable, get better milage, and are just overall nicer.
Personally though, I would seriously look at the Hyundai accent. Theyre significantly less expensive, come with a much better warrenty (60,000 mile bumper to bumper, 100k drivetrain), and hyundais have gotten tons nicer in the last decade.
The Yaris would prob be my first choice though. The scion xA is also a pretty similar car.
Ok, i lied. My real first choice would be to wait for the VW rabbit TDi. Silly gas mileage (in a good way!), looks good, more powerful, and the TDI motors are indestructable. Not to mention they have a much nicer interior and such.

Get you a car a step or two higher on the totem pole and a few years older. If those MPG figures in that earlier post are true, you can get a v6 car that gets that kind of MPG figure (okay, a little shorter in the city) and is just a better all-around car. You get what you pay for. The fact that you bring noted tin cans like the Yaris and a Korean POS like the Aveo into the mix makes me cringe. A good thing about my friend letting his daughter drive a 94 Grand Marquis as a first car...190 horsepower can erase stupid driving (pulling out into intersections) a lot easier than a car with half the power and the extra heft doesn't hurt, either.

Real world feul economy for the Yaris and Fit do not reflect EPA stats. All of these cars are very good subcompacts. I personnely own two Aveo's, an 04&07 and have found them to be a good overall value for the money. In terms of styling, feul economy, ride comfort, handling, and features they are one of the better values in the subcompact segment.

The Yaris has gotten terrible reviews-with good reason.
The interior layout is ridiculous, gas mileage is bad-worse than advertised. Overall it is a huge diasppointment, they shouldnt have replaced the Echo.
