And still be historically accurate?

To be accurate, not all communists are atheists, and not all atheists are communists. But communism is certainly the political realization of atheism. All the founders of communism were stone-cold atheists, and communism itself advances atheistic beliefs, so it's hard to separate one from the other.

You are wrong on two counts. First of all, communism was not responsible for killing those people, it was due to ruthless dictatorships. Nazi Germany was the furthest thing from communism and they killed over 8 million (smaller countries, smaller number of enemies of state to kill).
The Turks (not communists) perpetrated the Armenian massacre. etc.

Secondly, atheism only means lack of belief in gods. It has nothing to do with communism. Using your same argument we could claim that Christianity was responsible for all of the murders in Nazi Germany because they were Christians.

How about the pagans and philosophers who incited Rome to kill and torture countless numbers of Christians? Unbelievers have killed more people than combined religions ever have. History will testify to that fact. Many of Rome's leaders had no true belief in any god. Unbelievers will always say Hitler was Catholic. And if you mention Stalin or Mao, they will admit they were atheistic but rationalize by saying "They did it for personal power or greed." But they never look at the fact that they are lobbying for the removal of Christianity and God from schools, legislatures, off of the pledge, off of the money. They want to eradicate God, and religion entirely. And are holding their own subtle inquisition.

Communism IS the religion. Instead of Christianity or Islam, Communism became the belief system that was used to justify the killing. You don't have to have god in order to have religion. A political system can be a religion too with god replaced by a head of state like Stalin or Mao.

I don't think it's atheism, but the whole communist ideology. The killings were in the end political. And after all, the Catholic Church killed millions on people too... in the name of God.

People who utter that sentence (atheism never hurt anyone) are wrong. Saying Christianity is a peaceful religion is wrong. Most religions, beliefs and ideologies have killed alot of people and ther eis nothing that can change it. So basically I agree with you that atheism has hurt people and one who says that sentence is not historically accurate, I just added the other point of view.

hi, look, maximum wars are fought over textile income, territorial disputes and in the 20 th century, political ideology in combination. Even on a micro scale between human beings such as you and me, I certainly have considered human beings killed for ripping human beings off, getting in touch in drugs, screwing around in others marriages yet in no way for going to their mosque, synagogues or Cathedrals. Cheers, Michael Kelly playstation - Japan had an extremely nasty human rights abuses and intense death tolls for their enemies in the 30's and for the duration of WW II.

Only idiots believe religion is to blame for all the war in the world. Keep pointing the finger at the wrong thing then the men that perpetrate these heinous acts will always get away with it. Every man is responsible for what he does, so how can religion be the blame? It is us, humans. We are to blame.

well to be historically accurate

Communism is a political ideology, not a religious theology.

As such a person can be a practicing member of any religion and still be a communist.
