Asmall room will need smaller furniture. Don't use big or oversized furniture, make it minimal. Also, focus on different sections of the room. Make a small display for each section to draw attention to it. Maybe a chair in the corner with a small round table next to it with a vase of flowers and a smaller lamp, that type of thing. I have a small living room and I painted large stripes on the walls. (Tan and antique white), it really gives it a dramatic look and opens up the room nicely.

Paint the walls a light color; a nice creamy yellow would make it appear larger and airy. Use nice window toppers with mini blinds. Get some cheap sheer material or sheer cutain panels. Hang it over the window on a rod using a lot of straight pins.
Do not use large furniture. Put the clutter away; it will look great!
