There was a major church counsel in the early years (300s, as I recall) that came away with a basic outline of what they were calling Christianity. I am not sure the Bible was completely decided upon at that time, but basically, it was Catholic bishops, meeting in counsel, that did the deciding.

Clearly, what was put in and what was left out had much to do with politics as well as religion. The Catholic church was the main power in Rome at the time, basically becoming the successor to the Roman emperors. They wanted to include what would support their power trip, and exclude anything that might undermine it.

It was the emperor Constatine and the hierarchy of the church at the time who mostly decided which version of Jesus was going to be reflected in the Bible.

It's our job and responsibility to vet the story and decide which and what is or isn't true or not.

The Bible is said to be the inspiration of God, if you want to defame this belief, thats your choice. So any books choosen must be there by Gods choice, not mans. Didn't jesus say to Peter his Rock,' What ever you loose on earth will be loose in Heaven"? Sorry if I didn't quote it just right.

All the books in the new testament are written by actual disciples of Jesus or by Paul of Tarsus. Not much decision needed there.
