Good question. The historic evidence suggests it was upon the order of Pope “Blessed” Urban II.
You forgot to mention that Pope Urban also ordered every animal killed as well. So not one living soul survived. An incredible and unprecedented event of evil.
That the death toll, from this clearly church sanctioned act was at least 150,000 to 200,000 people, of which at least 60,000 were Jewish.
See the Almanac of Evil for other examples of Vatican "love"

The Christians of that time were savages and afraid.
The civilised ones were the Jews and the Muslims.
The Muslim conquerors are instructed by their faith as laid down to them in the Quran and as exampled by the prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) to show mercy and compassion.
Jews lived in Jerusalem in peace for centuries under Muslim rule. What's happening now, the Jews are persecuting Christians and Muslims alike. If you are Christian or Muslim in Jerusalem and decide to visit someone outside the city, you will not be allowed to return.
Relating another historical fact. In the time of Spain returning to Christian rule, the Jews decided to leave with the deposed Muslim rulers rather than to live under the sadistic and intolerant Christian rulers. Yet, today we hear propaganda about the Muslim rulers of yesteryear.
Islam dictates, there is no compulsion in religion.
Islam dictates that Muslims have to be tolerant of other faiths.
In this forum, you witness unfounded attacks against Islam emanating from scared little people wanting to convince you that their confused beliefs, is the way.
I will be very surprised if any Muslim becomes murtat as a result of this forum. It's no contest - you can't dent a Muslim's faith.
There are exceptions maybe of some weak or apostate who is lost, anyway. They cannot be counted, as they were not Muslim to begin with.

Answering Gamzo or whatever below:
It's amazing how people can suck stories out of their thumbs and expect it to be accepted as truth.
Hitler and his cronies had a propaganda machine in place during WWII which was very efficient. One of the ploys was to repeat untruths as often as possible. This way if you repeat it often enough, it would be accepted as the truth.
Ironically, this is what the person below employs; the same ploy which was used against his ancestors.
As for non-Muslim living in an Islamic environment, they were free to practice their beliefs unhindered except for one thing, they had to pay a tax of 1,5%. yes, how cruel is that I ask you when the Muslims who lived in the same society also had to pay a tax, but it was 2,5% for Muslims. How unfair to the non-Muslims.

I guess the Crusaders, did not like the idea of monotheism. They where afraid that these people would over throw them so they tried to kill them all. And as for the Great Islamic General who forgave everyone....Islam is a religion of peace, The Quran teaches us many lessons about revenge and forgiveness...

The Spanish Inquisition replaced into in the 12th Century. on an identical time as i'm no longer Christian, i think of we are going to might desire to provide Christians a bypass in this one now that we are in the twenty first Century. human beings can debate which faith is the main violent in historic past till we are all blue in the face. the reality of the mater is, there's a extensive and transforming into component of the Muslim community that's violent and, as such, it could fairly be pronounced that Muslims are the main violent faith of our time. yet another stable distinction you will discover is interior of something of the non-violent Muslims once you evaluate them to Christians. while the KKK starts lighting fixtures up a pass, the persons speaking out against them are Christians. there's a nerve-racking loss of concern among the international's Muslims.

The result being that Many Christians all the Jews in Jordanian Jerusalem were either killed or expelled, with most living their for hundreds of years.

It is because one of the reasons for European barons embarking on the Crusades is to gain more land and as a diversion to economic chaos back home. To conquer the land of Christ...well, that's a bonus.
Salahuddin was truly a great leader. Period.

Under Islamic law, as a grateful payment for being allowed to live and be "protected," a Jewish or Christian dhimmi paid a special head tax and a special property tax, the edict for which came directly from the Koran: "Fight against those [Jews and Christians] who believe not in Allah ... until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low."
Omar, the caliph who succeeded Mohammed, delineated in his Charter of Omar the twelve laws under which a dhimmi, or non-Muslim, was allowed to exist as a "nonbeliever" among "believers." The Charter codified the conditions of life for Jews under Islam -- a life which was forfeited if the dhimmi broke this law. Among the restrictions of the Charter: Jews were forbidden to touch the Koran; forced to wear a distinctive (sometimes dark blue or black) habit with sash; compelled to wear a yellow piece of cloth as a badge (blue for Christians); not allowed to perform their religious practices in public; not allowed to own a horse, because horses were deemed noble; not permitted to drink wine in public; and required to bury their dead without letting their grief be heard by the Muslims.

because they had swords?
and Saracens were no less bloodthirsty or vile in their long-range plans. The Sultan of Persia commissioned that young boys from my country, and from other countries be kidnapped so that when they were made into Janissaries, they would be sent in armed combat to kill their own people. This was a long range plan that was carried out in the 1400's. They were in it for the long run, and they didn't want to waste their own guys blood in it.

The did what they thought was right in the eyes of God as they had been taught. Other than that I am afraid we will have to wait on judgment day to find out the true answer to this question.
