Because in the Jewish custom it is considered blasphemous to write the name of God. The is also why they write YHWH.
I can't believe the ignorance of some of the answers here. What a tolerant, sensitive bunch you are.

Typically, you will usually see Orthodox Jews spell God like "G-d". This is because they so revere the name of God that they will not use that word unless it is in the context of Divine Worship.
I respect Orthodox Jews for practicing this custom. Perhaps, if more Christians considered this Orthodox Jewish custom, God's name would not be taken in vain so much.

It is not out of fear but out of reverence. The Jewish tradition calls for reverence toward any word used to designate the deity. Consider, if the divine name were written on paper and that paper was later dropped into a mud puddle or stepped on. Or if someone were to be saying the name at the exact moment that they were distracted by a profane thought, or they pronounced it badly. Care for the name indicates reverence for its owner.
Many Christians equate using the name "in vain" with casual swearing or cursing. That is a very tiny aspect of it. The greater sin is in appropriating the name for one's own purposes. "G-d is on our side," "G-d wants you to do this," and the like are far more serious abuses of the name. Making the extra effort to stop and think before approaching the name, deliberately limiting our use of it, reminds us of our place and prevents our ever misusing it.

That is a good question I havent noticed that but I can't think of any reason not to use the word God. I have read recently though that some people blow their tops at the word Jesus being metioned.

If you're not talking about or to God, then I and some others consider it blasphemous. For instance, I don't sware to God. Nor do I say Oh my God. Seems silly to some. Serious to others.

It is a correctness in reaction to keeping holy the Lord's name. Although it is not His name, it is His title, and people of Jewish decent who are thusly taught, will address Him in the manner you have noticed.
I think it's cute.

iduno, but since I have the free will God gave me, I will attempt to blasphemy the holy spirit here because im not afraid.
I do not believe in any deities, the father, the son, and the holy spirt are all false and I choose to disbelieve them and take them out of my head, heart, and soul. I am prepared for torment in hell for eternity and wish to see Satan in 5 minitues.

Because of secularism. Many people are now afraid not to be politically correct rather than speak from their hearts.

Probably because they believe it is blasphemy to say it or either they are saying it in a "bad" way like Goddamit or something like that.
