Some times when I listen to music which is my favorite, I feel that I am not listening properly. It may be kind of joke. But its not so. I feel that I am not going deeply to the music. Why? But its not happening when I listen to non-fav music.

Everyone's brain is different and some music will stir the cells in your particular brain and some won't. Just like certain scents or tastes, etc. can be more alluring to you, the same goes with music. It can be intoxicating to the point where you forsake other senses therefore you don't pay attention to other things. We aren't all attracted to the same type of music just like we aren't all attracted to the same types of men and women. Does that make sense? :-)

What is your fundamental understanding of music? Are you familiar with musical form? Harmony? Texture? Timbre?

Without such a fundamental understanding, it's difficult to really go 'deeply' into music. There are a couple of books that you might want to consider which will help you understand music more.

The first one is "Music and the Imagination" by Aaron Copland

The second is "The Joy of Music" by Leonard Berstein

Both of these are available on Amazon, and both (I think) truly provide a good fundamental for music appreication.

Good luck.

I feel this too. It is my view that you have to be in a certain mindset to appreciate music, art, love, violence, joy, drugs and culture. Your mind must be disconnected from your body as if it was a separate entity. Do not try this. You will fail. Let your mind disconnect automatically. Or face a different way

Sometimes it can be a left brain/ right brain thing. If you are analyzing the music, the other, emotional side might be more quiet so you're not enjoying it as much. Or vice-versa.

It may be your favorite but because you listen to it so often, to zone it out when you get other stimuli! Other songs are new or at least not as familiar so it piques the interest!
