My child's father hasn't been in his life wat so ever and my mom has helped me take care of my son since he's been born. If something happens to me he has the first choice to get my son and I'd like for my mom to get custody of him. He isn't in his life and doesn't take care of him at all. How do I go about terminating his rights and making sure my mom gets my son if something shall happen?

call your local clerk of courts and get a termination of parental rights form. it's simple and only one page.

You need to get some legal advice from someone who knows what their talking about. Have you ever spoke to your childs father and asked how he felt about signing over rights since he isn't involved with this child? If he isn't involved then he obviously doesn't care about his child, so why don't you ask him to make it official and sign over his rights. This way you have the only say so in your sons life.

what r ur reasons for the termination if its for the right reasons then go to court and ask for a child support hearing, he will be served papers, then a day or 2 later call him and be like if u don't want to pay sign away ur right , be like u want have to ever pay child support. but if it for ur jealousy then ur in the wrong

i dont think you can. i know that the father can sign his rights away so that someone else can adopt your kid, for example. but in scotland, the father can re-instate his right any time he wants to. i think the biological father will always be next in line if anything happens to you but if he is the kind of man you say he is, he won't be that interested and your mum will probably get the baby anyway.

I think the father has to sign over rights..... unless you go to court and prove he has nothing to do with your son.... and as long as the father doesn't protest it. then it should be all good...

i would get a lawyer and go from there you want it to be done legally and right so the right things would be done with your child if it ever came down to it

He has to either be proven unfit, or he has to sign his rights away in the state that I live in.
