They will accept a long paraphrase on a Bible topic, but will not take the same idea in a short direct quote. Is this not strange; even a little weird?

I see no evidence which says that atheists are frightened by books. I suspect they are simply tired answers which contain nothing more than an already over-quoted piece of the Bible.

It seems they lack creativity to convert Bible passages into something meaningful in their lives. If I can create paraphrases of the Bible and they like the paraphrases, then why can't they go to the source and do the same thing?

In short, it is just a form of bigotry. A postop transsexual can have a friend for years until the friend finds out she is a TS. Likewise, an atheist may be okay with an idea until he/she finds that it came from the Bible. In either case, why does the extra bit of information just suddenly become an issue? A good friend is a good friend regardless of their original parts below. Likewise, good information is good information regardless of the source. Truth is truth regardless of where it is printed. There is no need for the bigotry based on superficialities.

BTW, it seems like a number of folks are missing the fact that Bibliophobe is capitalized in the question (and no other word except for the first words of sentences). That would imply fear of The Book, not just a fear of any old book.

I find it more curious how many Christians won't accept an answer as valid if it doesn't include massive cut and pastes of bible quotes, even if the answerer has put the exact same concept into a far more concise format.
Oh, and not knocking, but we're all here to learn right?
Biblio-book, Phobia (plural phobias) - An irrational or obsessive fear or anxiety, usually of or about something particular.
I know it's not what you meant, but you basically said atheists are afraid of books...

I don't think they have a phobia of the Bible. I think, perhaps they have read it too many times.
They are beyond the great shivers of excitement brought on by the words of the Bible and they want it back.
They can no longer get it from the word of Christ, so they seek another form of excitement by rejecting the word and finding out new and intriguing things.
I am a christian, and I don't put very much emphasis on the Bible, so I can understand to a point.
There comes a point in your life when you have to leave the Bible behind and proceed with faith and love.
God Bless Us All.

Because fundamentalist Christians are always insisting that the Bible is the literal, inerrant "word of God." They might be more open to it if they saw more Christians taking an intelligent, reasoned approach to it.

not really...i'm a hindu, but i do get what they mean....the long paragraph, even if it IS long is your OWN thinking....people are interested in hearing what YOU have to say...because anyone can read the bible ,but not into your thoughts...so an original answer is always more welcome, even though it may be long

BIBLIOPHOBE: Person who hates, fears, or distrusts books.
( THAT's NOT *ANY ATHEIST* I KNOW! THE REVERSE! )

"BIBLE"? Because I dislike books advocating the KILLING of 2/3s of ALL HUMANITY, including me.

BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: (part 33) KILL UNBELIEVERS - Acts 3:23 … "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear the prophet, shall be destroyed."

BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: (part 34) KILL UNBELIEVERS - 2 Chronicles 15:12-13 (NIV) … They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

Bibliophobic? I am not afraid of a library. I do know the bible is fiction though, and nothing to be afraid of.
