We have had nothing tramadic happen. About a year ago he would play and count to himself and count with me etc... Name all the colors, etc. Now he will not do any of it. When he counts he acts like he doesn't know how. I praise him for what he does right and don't make a big deal out of it if he is wrong...I also am having trouble with getting him to learn with me. I try to make it a game, craft, song, etc....He says "Not doin' it" .....He's a little stinker...=)

He is acting much like my son does when he gets bored with stuffl. With my son (5 yrs) we just kept pushing for harder and harder things. The best way I found to get him to listen and learn was bath crayons. We would write stuff on the shower walls. He knows complex shapes and simple fractions better than his older siblings. He started reading early as well, by doing the same thing. You might also want to see if he likes the Jump Start learning CD's. All my kids love them and they have them from preschool up to 5th/6th grade I think. Another good thing was pretending I didn't know. Mommy suddenly can't remember something or needs help to figure it out. I'll just warn you that from my experience, after they get into school (late K to 1st grade) they suddenly get super stupid and forget everything. It slowly returns. As far as I have seen and heard this happens with boys more than girls.

Hope this helps

I am guessing he is 4.....this is so typical of that age...ignore it. Does he have a younger sibling? make it a big deal to teach him things or when he counts....if not then when you are doing things together make it like a contest....example..."oh I bet you can't count all the red fruit loops...or I bet you can't find all the things that are green" when you make it this way they seem to want to play along...if not, do not worry it is a phase and he will out grow it...just in time to hit another stage.

Just do it for 10 minutes at time. They get bored very easily, make it more of a game for him. Like for colors, go in the kitchen and tell him to find things that are orange and stuff like that. it makes it fun and holds their intrest alot longer

my daughter does that. i was reading in a child development book about how toddlers look at it as "mastering" a skill and then they are ready to move onto something else. does that help?

he's probably just bored with it. my son used to like to do things with me like that also. i know that he still knows it now, but he has no interest in doing it anymore.
