About a 9.5, and the average joe would have had to work very hard in undergrad school just to get admitted, let along get through. If you're defining average joe as 100 IQ, it would be a stretch to think they'd succeed. Not impossible with enough drive and hard work, but a real stretch.

I would say a 9. It takes alot of drive to get through med school. A 4-year degree takes much diligence...and then to sign up for another 5+ years takes intentional dedication.

But I would say that you should go for what you want!I recently talked to a very wise doctor who said that a person with a 2.7 gpa (not high at all...about a low B!) got into med school after researching for a few years and finding something significant enough to get recognized by other researchers. In the end, you will be satisfied to know that you chased what you wanted...and even more satisfied knowing that you got it!

First question you ask yourself: do you want the "average joe" treating you, your significant other, your parents, friends, family, kids, etc. there are different levels of difficulty depending upon the school and the specialty. People have gifts and they are not all the same.

2nd question: how hard are you going to study for the MCAT?

8-10 , You have to have a strong intellectual capability (ie, be really smart, have excellent memorization skills, natural study skills), and then have twice the determination, plus an empathy for helping people (which not all physicians have. ) To many people being a doctor is an Ego trip, because us in Western society consider that occupation a prestigious occupation. So in a nutshell, you need to be smart, and dedicated, either in equal amounts or one needs to compensate for the other..

8.5 to 9.9 depending on which school...

An average person can get through any school if they apply themselves.
