Recently I started to notice these little black bugs all over my cats bed. I know these are not ticks, but I can't figure anything else. They are everywhere, and I need to know if they will hurt kittens. Please help!! Oh, and they almost look like spiders. Thanks.

I am geographically located in Nebraska, so far all I can tell is that they have six legs, and are about 1/4 of the size of dime, they are creepy help.

Need more info. Since this forum is for cat questions, try this in the zoology: insect section. Describe the insects in detail, how they move (jumpy, creepy, slithery, etc.), if you notice any droppings describe it. It may also help if you tell where you are geographically, so those who know bugs would have a better idea what bugs could be expected to appear where you are.
Good luck and I hope your cats do fine.

If they almost look like spiders, I'm sure they are mites. Mites usually infest dogs; but they can easily transfer to any animal (even humans) once they get in contact with them. Probably your cat has come in contact with a dog or a dog's bed that has already mites (or their eggs). Surely they will hurt kittens as these mites can cause Lime Disease and Scabies.

I am not sure what they could be. The only thing that I can think of that would be in as big of a group as you are discribing are fleas, but they are very tiny, so it would be hard to tell if they looked like spiders or not. So I am assuming that probably isn't what they are. Can you explain any more about them?

i'm going to check various entomology sites, but is there a chance you could post a picture of them?

you know i'm thinking they're bedbugs. the bad thing with these though - and why i didn't want to say it was them at first - is that if they're in your cat's bed, they're probably in yours, too. go to http://www.bed-bug.org/ and look at the pictures, see if they match what you've found.

this is an example that sounds like what you've got - http://www.ento.psu.edu/ImageGallery/Images/EasternBatBedBug01.jpg

I don't know, but you need to get rid of them asap. Take the cats to the vet as soon as possible!
