canonized is to declare a deceased person as a saint.

Canonized means added to the official list of persons the Church regards as saints. Of course everyone who is in heaven is a saint, and canonization doesn't "make" someone a saint. It is just an official recognition by the Church of the personal holiness of certain deceased members of the Church.
