Tanning beds are something you must get used to, first two times you'll look reddish, third times a charm though.
Spray tanning is good though, if the people are good.

not at all, i work in a tanning salon and just as many guys come tanning as the girls, this is not one bit weird

No, it's not weird for a guy to go tanning but people shouldn't tan to begin with! It leads to many health problems.
