How long should I expect my 16 wk old pup to be housetrained. She has peed and poop everywhere and I always think we are at that point where she can roam around, but then I find surprises. The good thing is that she can hold her pee longer than when we first had her.

You will have to set up routines. Always take her out straight after she wakes up and after a feed. Make sure all the scent of her accidents are gone. When she does mess outside make sure you make a big fuss of her. Until she has more control it would be best not to let her roam free around the house, keep her contained in one area, if possible make sure she has easy access to the outside.

At 16 weeks she can hold it over night (8 hours). If she is still having accidents, you can't let her out of your sight. Use a crate if you can't watch her. Every time a pup has an accident and you don't catch her going, she takes a step back in training. The very act of going in the house reinforces this behavior. You can't punish them afterwards, they simply will not understand it. Read Dr. Ian Dunbars book "After You Get Your Puppy". It is a small paperback and the best and only training book you'll ever need! I recommend it all the time.

Hello ..crate/space training & a feeding/water schedule...not too big an area, if they continuously potty in the crate or space, it's too big ...if it's going to be a big dog, just buy a big crate ( if you buy one ) & block it off...dogs are den critters, they like piling in small places & tightly, it's security to them & they don't usually like pottying where they sleep, but puppy's will have accidents @ times ...more details are on my 360 if you wish ...Take Care :)
