What room are you planning to redo? Does your $700 budget include new carpet or flooring?

A fresh coat of paint would freshen up your space. You say your things are old. Could your furniture pieces be refinished? A little sanding and painting of wood pieces can work wonders. Your upholstered pieces might need a new look with tie-on sofa/chair covers. Add some throw pillows and a chenille throw for an attractive accent.

Check out thrift stores, yard sales, consignment shops, etc. for "new" pieces and accessories. Your money will go a long way for this kind of shopping.

If you can provide more details, such as the answer to the question I posed first, perhaps readers can give you better advice as to how to spend your money for optimum results.

You defintely need to do some DIY (do it yourself) projects. That will help save money. Paint or wallpaper the walls. Shop at flea markets and yard sales for light fixtures and decorations. If you don't have enough money for new flooring, consider a large area rug. With old furniture, you can paint it, sand and stain it, or cover it with shelf paper. You might also want to redo the upholstery on a chair. If its a bed, simply get a different bed spread for a new look. You can always find things for a lower price. Try to find some used items instead of buying all new things. Make your own artwork to hang on the walls. Make some throw pillows to add more colors. Good Luck, and check out some websites for some handy info.

Painting is the least expensive thing that you could to change the look of a room. If it is a bedroom, you could change out the bedding and window treatments. Add some accent pillows and artwork.
If it it a family room, you could get new slipcovers an area rug and toss pillows.

If you like to change things in the future for a new look, keep your large pieces in the neutral family. These are the most expensive pieces. You can change seasonally with a quick change of pillows and area rugs.
Look to stores, like Pier 1 and Crate and Barrel.

1] polish and/or refinish all the furnitureso it doesn't match, but looks good together.
2] buy a bedspread or comforter in a design* of colors you like - say red, white, black, and a little gold.
3] paint the walls one of these colors that also compliments the furniture color. [ if furniture is dark, don't paint walls black - use red and/or white. If furniture is very light, use the black and/or red or white. ]
4] if it is a large design*, you could repeat it on the wall.
5] buy window covering in same print* or in one if the colors from it.
6] add accessories in colors from two in the print. If walls are red, add accessories in white [ candles, lampshades ] and black [ candlesticks, rug, chair ].
7] if there is a third color in the print you want to enhance, say gold, use it for picture or poster frames.
You might want to cruise through your home and see if there is anything that might look great in your room.
Good luck, and have fun!

kinda hard to say when u don't say which room, so will assume it is a bedroom. a new bed cover is a quick way to change things without much money. if furniture is miss matched , paint, i did odds and ends in my living room, all white. lots of comfy pillows. change knick nacks for fresh start. course can always paint or wall paper.
