No, you shouldn't get medicine from Walmart. Take him to the vet. If you aren't seeing any worms in his poo, he might be having a gland problem. My baby's anal gland got swollen, and we ended up taking him to the emergency vet Christmas morning... Nice timing.

Anal glands are two sacs, one either side of the anus. If they get impacted and you leave it untreated, they can become abscessed. That costs a lot more to treat than full anal glands. Plus an abscess is even more distressing for the dog.
Have your dog checked for fleas while you're at the vets with him. Theres a new treatment called Stronghold and it deals with worms as well. My vet would charge about £15.

how long ago did you get him? sometimes you can buy pets that already have worms, but it sounds like it could be worms. there is also another thing, dogs have scent glands in their anus, the vet has to clean these, it takes about 5 minutes and is not painful for the animal, but there is no way to be sure unless you take a poo sample to the vet and let them test and give you an answer. although walmart might have worm medicine i wouldnt reccommend it becuase you shouldnt give them worm meds unless the vet says to, and even if he doesnt have worms the vet can give you a monthly preventive worm medicine. i would reccommend getting a fresh poo sample and taking it to your vet asap. i hope this helps

Could be. If it were worms though it would come out in his poop. If it doesn't it would be worth buying, and I am not sure that I would trust something from Wal-mart for my dog. That's just the way I am though, it's just like another family member. Anyways, if there isn't any worms in his poop, inspect his you know and make sure that there aren't any kinds of bumps or boils or anything like that. I know that won't be pleasent but you gotta do what you gotta do. If not (even if there is) you need to take him to the vet to find out what is wrong, or so you could get some sort of cream or medication to get it repaired. Good luck and I hope your baby gets to feeling better soon.

He is probably having a problem with the anal glands, they might be inflamed. A key sign for that is dragging butt on the ground, constant licking, having trouble pooping......
I would not try to point out the cause of his irritation on your own and try to treat it. Take him to the vet. to have checked. Whatever you do, do not buy worming meds on your own, if you give him the wrong kind, it can/will do more damage than good.

Get him to the vets fast. My one had a anal gland bunged up which burst through his skin. Very painful.. I give him a teaspoon of All Bran in his meal once per day.. it has helped. Please take him to the vets. If this is the problem, don't let anyone empty his anal glands unless they are a vet and insist that they use an anti bacterial cream after. My boy has been ok now for 2 years since I kept up the bran and ensured the vet uses the anti cream. Whenever I have forgotten about the cream, his anal gland has become inflamed. So don't forget, for his sake.

If he is gnawing his butt, it sounds like he may have fleas or indeed been bit by one. It could also be his anal glands. If he is scraping his butt along the floor, it is the anal glands that need emptying. Your vet is the best person to do this. If it is worms, you should be able to see them in the poo. Does sound like fleas or anal glands though. Pop him along to your vets asap and get him sorted. Hope he is soon sorted.

If he is turning around suddenly and biting his butt, most likely it is a flea bothering him. If he is scooting and dragging his butt across the floor, it is almost always an anal gland problem. Your vet or groomer can help you with that. Worms rarely cause problems with the butt. :)

Sounds like worms- if he's itchy- puppies are prone to worms but you need to be careful what dose to give them. You can buy stuff like that at supermarkets these days - just watch the dosage

If he his rubbing or dragging his butt across the floor it is a good chance that it is impacted anal glands, a common problem with small dogs. Usually your groomer or vet will empty the anal glands during a grooming or vet visit.
