Will having unpaid medical bills affect my ability to enroll with a new health insurance company?
Are there any laws that protect individuals in such circumstances?
Thanks!

No but having a pre-existing condition might. They cannot refuse you coverage due to your credit standing.

No it shouldn't but like they said check with them to see if they will accept a pre-existing condition. As for your unpaid bills(just a tip) if you can't afford to pay them alot or are scared they will sue you can write them a check for as little as $1 a month and they can't sue you for a dime... thought it might help.

I have never heard of an insurance company checking on your credit. you should easily be able to enroll with a new insurance provider.
